Thread: Top 5 of 2004

  1. Top 5 of 2004

This is a hard enough thing to do after E3. I thought it'd be interesting to see what everyone's looking forward to the most, and what will be really interesting is how those hold up once E3 has come and gone. My list goes something like (in order):

    True Fantasy Live Online Xbox
What can I say, that preview over at 1up.com has me frothing. I've never played a MMORPG before because I just can't stand American-style RPG's as well as the constant leveling I'd heard about. The idea of this being skill-based, such a huge amount of customization, and the job system all look really great. I know it sounds cheesy, but I'm really hoping for this to be kinda like the .hack//sign anime...minus breaking the system and some random girl being taken over by her Xbox...

    Halo 2 Xbox
I remember sitting in the Microsoft conference last year and seeing/hearing the game for the first time on a monster screen with subs that felt like they were built into the chair...my jaw just dropped and stayed that way for quite a while. Between single and multiplayer, I've probably logged somewhere around 500 hours on the first game. Given the time being taken on this, what I've seen and heard, and the people behind it...I'm really hoping for a #1 game of all time contender.

    Doom III Xbox
I think a lot of us can remember the first time we turned down the lights after installing 5-10 floppies on our PCs and playing id's first game since Wolfenstein 3D. I couldn't believe how amazing it was, and it was so realistic! The update to the game just looks phenomenal...like it's how the developers originally meant for Doom to look.

    Resident Evil 4 Gamecube
I hate to say all of these games look incredible, but they do! RE4 is no exception. I thought Capcom had tapped out the Gamecube with REmake, but it looks like that was just the tip of the iceberg after watching the most recent video. With the new camera angle (finally!), genuinely creepy atmosphere, and smarter enemies, I'm thinking this might stand to be the best Resident Evil.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories Gameboy Advance
In a complete departure from the graphical monsters above, this rounds out my list for the moment. I'm such a huge fan of the original one that this game that starts off right after Kingdom Hearts 1 ends is very high on my list of looking-forward...ness. I just hope Kingdom Hearts 2 isn't too far behind the GBA installment...

  2. #2
I just can't get excited about Doom 3... I doubt it'll look and feel in any way connected with the original series. Half Life 2 is what you should be caring about.

And Kingdom Hearts... ok, decent story, great characters, decent controls, great graphics, HORRIBLE level design (worst I've seen in a long, long time) and that horrible gummi ship. Ugh. The GBA sequel looks good, though.

  3. Halo 2- I can't wait for them to announce a Q1 2005 release date

Metroid Prime 2- Let's see 'em top part 1

Star Fox 2- I hope the Arwing designs were scrapped from last years E3 build...

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection- We shall see if SCEA really allows this...

Neo Contra- Why are they even bothering with 3D...again?

KOF Maximum Impact- will this even be at E3?

    KOF Neowave- (see above)

  4. Grandia sequel
    Ico 2

    Need more info on these...

  5. hmmmmm in no order

    Resident Evil 4
    Metroid Prime 2
    La Pucelle
    Sammy Vs Capcom
    Killer 7

  6. The biggest annoyance for me is that Halflife 2 was supposed to be out almost a year ago. And they had such an amazing hype machine going in to it. E3, the demo in July, then September we're sold. They didn't keep their word... but if it's as good as they seem to make it then it will be awesome.

  7. Well, Lets see:

MGS Snake Eater - Snake goes to the wild country. It looks great, and new gameplay elements, make it more intriguing.

Silent Hill 4: The Room - I love SH series, and this one look very mysterious, and graphically even better than before.

RE4 - I love the graphical upgrade, new gameplay elements, camera system, but still not sold on fighting hicks instead of zombies. Oh well, time will tell, and big monsters do look badass.

Halo 2 - First one was pretty good. Let see them make it even better.

Shadow Hearts 2 - Well its out in Japan, but I cant wait for US release.

    Onimusha 3 - Same as SH2 above.

    On PC side:

Half Life 2 - this goes without explanation

S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Looks awesome, set in Russia(well Ukraine, but its close), deals with mutants, has great physics and fx matching HL2. Can't wait.

Doom 3: if it ever comes out.

World of Warcraft - The only Online rpg other than Diablo 2 that I actully want to play.

    About Sammy vs. Capcom... will that be affected by Capcom USA's Coin-Op division closing? ;_;

And KoF will be the first AtomisWave game to look like an NES one.

Sammy's making both of these, so no. Not affected.
