This is the biggest cause of X3's success. The only other big movie out is DaVinci Code and that's not nearly the action-laden shut-your-brain-off experience that most people are looking for on Memorial Day weekend.

I am sure the number of people who went to see it again was a lot different than X1 or X2
What I'm getting at is that word of mouth is a powerful way for people to go see movies... when I go see this movie and then tell everyone how much I disliked it, they all stay away... when someone says that it's good, more people may go see it... and some people see it multiple times. So that means that this movie had more people seeing it again and again, and more people with positive word of mouth than the last one.

While you have some good logic, look at my previous part about why I feel it shows lack of taste.

I guess that's a good point, but what I find interesting is that it did BETTER, and that usually doesn't happen with sequels... maybe enough people caught it on DVD afterwards that it built up even more of a following... or watched FX in the last 6 months

  3. The movie flat-out rocked. They could have cut out 30 min of slow stuff from the middle but no biggie. Wall-to-wall awesome. Anybody who says anything else is wrong.

Yeah, but word of mouth usually doesn't affect the business a movie does on its opening weekend. There's no time for the word to get around (besides, just as many people seem like X3 as dislike it), in addition to the fact that a lot of people liked X2 and were excited about a sequel.

The real test will be how X3 does next weekend.

I'm sure there will be a huge drop for X3, but there was for the first movies too, so this is nothing new.

While somewhat true, it's a long holiday weekend, so there's some time. As I mentioned, I talked to multiple people at a party and got LOTS of people to not go see it, and I'm sure I'm not an issolated incident. You are right though, the real test is next weekend. The problem is that there isn't any competition opening up this week.

"I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" also really killed it for me.

I'm a big X-Men fan, have been for years. And while I didn't like some of the storyline decisions in X3, overall I thought it was a solid movie and would like the series to continue. An opening weekend that huge basically guarantees a sequel, so I'm happy.

There's "laughably" bad and then there's silent "ewww" bad like Storm's line vs. Toad in the 1st XM.
