Thread: EA's Fight Night

  1. From playing the game I kind of assumed that the camera was the ref (the ref looking at the action in the ring).

  2. Well if that EA guy might read this I might as well post something.

Technically this game is really good, and has the best collision detection in a boxing game I've every seen (haven't played victorious boxers 2 yet). The coolest thing is being able to hit guys after you knock them out, especially if you have them pinned up against the ropes you can keep pounding them. I wish they had more boxers, but I guess that would be difficult for EA to get more.

I'm not too crazy about the body punching aspect. It's not very realistic that you have to crouch really low everytime to throw a body shot, and some of the punches from there seem akward. They kept it simple by keeping the body punches analogous to the head shots, which wasn't a bad thing, but the result doesn't seem very natural.

The announcer was really annoying, like it was NBA Street. They should make another arcadey style boxing game with that guy, and keep this one a sim style boxing game with real commentators (like from HBO, Showtime, or ESPN). The game is a realistic boxing game, and I thought "homeboy" made the game atmosphere less realistic.

If they really go all out on the career mode like other EA sports games, then that alone would make me want to get the next one.

With boxing games, it's difficult because EA just can't get all the boxers in one fell swoop. When they make a deal with the NFL or NBA, all the players ever are contracted under those leagues, so BAM, every player in one fell swoop. With boxers, they have to negotiate with each boxer individually, and some of them just want way too much money. I know they've been wanting Foreman for years, but he wants this insane amount of cash.

Looking at the roster, that must have taken a good part of their budget, but next years budget should be alot higher to accomodate more boxers, espically if this year's version does really well, since EA knows they can get the money back.

I read somewhere this is because EA signed a deal with one of the rap companies (I think it was Def Jam), so that's why all their sports games are riddled with rap music, and why Big Tigger is the announcer.

I don't really see how they can improve the career mode much over what it is right now.

And about how they should add in grappling / holding, it was supposed to be in the early stages of the game but the team felt that it slowed the action down way too much.

I was actually dissapointed with what they have now- it's basically the same type of training system thats been in boxing games for over a decade.

They could have a detailed training system where you could choose type of weight training vs cardio, or even stuff like choosing managers and trainers. The politics and drama outside of the boxing ring aren't too far of of WWF wrestling, so you could have something like in those games (but not as wacky). I even remember hearing about some saturn game where you choose the fighters diet. You could also choose when and how frequent you fight, positively or negatively affecting your boxers stats. Another idea is how injuries in the ring affect your fighter, either temporarily or permanently. Picking up and dropping endorsements, affecting how much you can spend on your training camp which in turn affect your boxer's stats. Of course chosing a promoter could have a big influence on a fighter.

One idea relating to training your fighter is finding a balance between different types of training, so your fighter can make weight for whatever division he is in. If you have him increase his power too much by lifting weights and whatnot, then he might have to move up. I always thought it was dumb in most boxing games that you increase all of your fighters stats so that eventually the speed and power is all the way up- but your fighter weighs exactly the same when he had 10% of that power in the beginning.

Ultimately the current type of career mode is to simplified and streamlined, that everyone who makes a fighter ends up with the same type of guy in the end- that has maxed out stats. F Zero GX had a cool customized racer mode in that you couldn't really make THE perfect car, and everyone had a different one based on personal preference. It wasn't the most balanced system, but it still ended up having a good amount of variety in the end.

This is just stuff I thought of now, I'm sure if people think about it they could come up with great ideas.

I'm just about heading off to bed, so I can't provide the most detailed reply, but none the less...

I could see alot of that working very well, but the problem is that most people who EA is shooting for to buy this game, that might be a bit too involved for them.

If EA could bring in two different career modes, one being the plain "advance through the ring, up your stats, get the title", and a second, more involved career mode like you mentioned, I think it would go alot better.

It's kind of like in Football games now, where you can either have total control over everything, or just say "nah, fuck it, I just want to do a little bit and let the comp handle the rest".

I could just alot of those ideas fly over alot of the target audiences heads, even though those were some outstanding, well thought out ideas.

  6. Is RJJ in the game?

I would like to beat him up since that would be completely impossible were I armed with a bat and a gun and he only his gloves.

  7. He's on the cover.
Can you change the camera angles?
    pwned by Ivan

  8. I haven't found a way, but then again I haven't needed to.
