Thread: Guardian Heroes Advance on the way?

  1. So much for Treasure's no sequels stance.

    Gunstar Heroes better be next!

  2. Xbox 360 I

Hey guess what, so are shmups. They're very simple in concept but good ones are deceptivley deep. When you can 1 credit Final Fight(I'd start with the Punisher or C&D if thats ever your goal) and come up with the same opinion, then you'll be allowed to have it.

As for GH on the GBA. If true, I hope they really rework the game. I liked the original but I've no desire to play it on a GBA. I hope they drop the multiplane jumping and just allow you to walk between em too.

I know Yuke-Yuke sold very well in the US, and while Headdy and Gunstar may not have been as successful, this seems due to Sega of America not marketing from properly. Wile we ever see a sequel from Treasure?

Masato Maegawa - "Each game that Treasure develops…When all the developing is done, it is considered a complete piece of work. We want to keep creating something new rather than developing sequels. However, we know that many users want us to bring back our games from the past. They have been requesting us to do so. If our developing team thinks that they can create a better one than the one previously released, then there is a possibility that we may develop a sequel."

  4. I'm assuming that quote was directed at me, Valgar. I'm very well aware of that quote, I own the issue of GR that came from.

There were earlier interviews where Meagawa stated they didn't want to develop sequels.

Personally, I don't care. I nearly had a heart attack when I read that it would be a new Guardian Heroes. Let's hope though that this game plays like the Treasure of old's games did, because their new stuff leaves alot to be desired.

Where? I want to see, I'm curious.

  6. I've long since parted with the issue, but it was from an issue of Sega Saturn Magazine from Europe, if I'm not mistaken.

It was about the time that they covered Guardian Heroes that they had the interview, and when asked about sequels, he said something to the effect of they put all their heart and soul into every title they make, and that they don't believe they can make a sequel that could outdo the original game. He also said that the reason they split from Konami was because of the constant sequels, and how they wanted to develop fresh ideas and concepts with each outing.

  7. Treasure did Silpheed:TLP, and they're doing Gradius V, so clearly they're willing to do sequels. They're just decidedly more protective when it comes to their own work.

    Ah, Thanks!

  9. I can see where Kinopio's coming from with his stance on the genre, as the highs in it are great, but the lows tend to be pits, as there is little middle ground for the genre. When it's done well, the games are classics, and when they are done horribly, they drag the entire genre down immensely. The 16-bit era was a blessing and a curse for it, as with every Streets of Rage and Final Fight came a Brawl Brothers, or worse... Also, I'd like to see this game on the GBA, as I've never played the Saturn original. Judging by the cover art, I may have just shrieked in horror at it, and never bothered to look at the greatness on the back of the case.

I can see Treasure saying yes to these projects just for the yen factor. They're both works for other companies. Treasure probably won't be credited in them besides the staff roll. Treasure is a reputed developer and get good offers which probably can't reject, but their trajectory reveals they prefer to create new game concepts instead of sequels. Notice I'm arguing on this one, unlike the previous subject.

I said it before, but Guardian Heroes is classified as a "Kakutou RPG" in the original box. "Kakutou" is a word related to the vs. fighting games and I hope you all know what an RPG is. Persisting on the idea of the Final Fight genre is more than a stretch here.
