Thanks for the impressions, sounds like a solid game. I'm starting to regret picking up a few games yesterday, dunno if I'll be able to afford this right away. Tell us how the online play is when you get a chance.
47% done with the campaign mode, these are some of the cars:
Rally:
Subaru WRX STI, Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII
Couple ice courses, some dirt with jumps and a few segment time based races (like a real rally race).
8/10.
Touring Cars:
Merc CLK AMG
Audi TT S
Fast. Best sensation of speed so far in the game, fun to drive.
Also worth noting is that the Audi is sponsered by Red Bull and PlayStation2. Nothing like seeing PlayStation2 in big letters on the back of a car in an XB game.
9/10.
Trucks:
Ford 9000 Semi Truck
Ford SVT Lightning
Semi's are like driving a brick on ice. Not really too fun, you have to slow way down and go real slow. Novel, but that wears off in 3 minutes.
4/10.
Open Wheel:
Formula Ford F1.
Pretty quick, and tough to control. Hit another car and you are toast. A good, but dangerous selection to use online.
Other Cars:
Mustang '66 Cobra
Mustang SVT Cobra
Ford GT40
Skyline GTR
Astin Martin DB5
Astin Martin Vanquish?
Couple old Jag's.
Have yet to get all cars and see what they are, but not bad so far.
Online is done like this:
You start with 1500 points.
When you join a ranked game, just before it starts, it puts some in a bank (dunno if that means you drop you lose points). Then you race.
I did a race with 2 others, both ranked 1500.
For 1st, I had 1512
2nd had 1500 still
3rd had 1488
I'm at 54% done now and will host a game tomorrow, since I have a lot of things unlocked.
Thanks for the impressions, I might just snag this along with Space Raiders this weekend. Does the game support custom soundtracks?

I was wondering where the off. thread was for this game.Judging by the lack of posts in this thread, it's safe to say that interest in this game hasn't taken off at TNL (shame). For 30 bucks, you get a good game that does a lot of things really well. Not only that, but the Live aspect is pretty solid - it adds lots of replay to a game that seems to have substantial meat on it as it is (I'm at 29% in Career Mode).
Jeremy, to answer your question, the game DOES support custom soundtracks. All Xbox racers should support custom soundtracks.
It's all about the New York Islanders!!!
Groovy, my interest in the game is increased. Still can't find a copy of the original though.

Had the XB not gone tits up, I'd be on this, PGR2 or RSC2.
RIP, little man, we had some good times.

Quick impression:
1p career mode is nice! Abit restrictive in terms of progress (if you are stuck at a race, you are stuck). You do have a choice of 2 different race genres every now and then.
Rally mode sucks, rather surprised since Codemaster made Colin McCrae 04.
60 FPS is awesome, wide variety of styles mean you never get bored (except for that rally mode!
Live mode is great. A bug allows you to race any car on any track.
Overall: Awesome game, 2nd favorite behind PGR2.
Playing with freinds who race honorably, and learning how to race each car and track make this the best online racer to date.....
Racing against turds who use YOUR car as a brake in turns and "punt" you into the kitty litter make it one of the most frustrating.
A classic IMO...but must have Live to get the most out of it.
What are some issues with the rally mode?
