Thread: Boondocks to hit TV

  1. Aside from the assy "4th grader's attempt at trying to draw something anime-styled for a project that doesn't gel with the style at all" style of the strip, I like it. But a TV show... no, this won't work at all, seeing as how the strip is usually commentary on current events, and animation is a long process, so the references will be dated by the time a given episode even airs, and it'll only get worse over time.

'Curtis' or 'Jump Start' would be a lot more deserving for the market I assume they're going for.

  2. Now Curtis, there's a good strip I haven't read in a while.

  3. On the left (literally and figuratively) page of the comics section in my local paper, you've got Boondocks, whcih hasn't made me laugh since the early strips when not all the gags were "LOL REPUBLICANS". On the right page, you've got Mallard Filmore, which I've never seen do a gag that WASN'T "LOL DEMOCRATS".

I'm pretty lefty myself, but I just can't tell which strip sucks harder.

wow a lot of hate for this strip. I think it's true genius. Great writing. It's not LOL funny...and it's not to the level of Dilbert or Peanuts or some of the classic strips -- Calvin and Hobbes being the greatest ever written. But it is very good. You odn't need to laugh at a comic strip, a mere smile is good enough...but I do agree that lately it hasn't been as funny as it once was...

As far as a cartoon goes, it will fail miserably...mainstream America wont' dig into this cause well, it ain't mainstream enough...

Probably because most white people don't care for race humor unless it's live action and with bad words.

  8. Not me. I'll laugh at ol' whitey if it's funny. Just like i'd laugh at a joke about a pakistany man if it was funny.

  9. Well I think this is great news, this could be a really great series.

  10. The Boondocks is a comic strip? Coulda fooled me, I thought it was a three-panel soapbox for some angry left-wing nutball.

Probably because that's what it is 90% of the time.

I can enjoy political humor, but McGruder's "humor" just isn't funny unless you think making smug, self-righteous statements is the pinnacle of comedy. OMG ANGSTY BLACK KIDS HATE BUSH LOLZORS

(EDIT: I don't think I have to remind anyone that I think each side of the political coin are just as full of lying scumbags as the others.)
