Thread: I seriously need some advice right now.

  1. But you CAN do small things. You post here. You obviously posted here for help, even (that's not as small as you think). Not trying to sound patronizing or mocking or anytrhing else you may read into it, but that's still something. Just apply it to slightly larger things and go from there.

When I say, I can't do small things. I always make them into big things even if I don't want to. You should see me clean a blackboard in highschool. I spend like half an hour on it. Left to right, then up and down. Over and over again. Eventually the teacher yelled at the top of her voice "STOP" and gave me the rolleyes.

It's alright to not be able to do something, but you seem to give off the impression that you don't even try anymore. Look at yourself and capabilities as futile, and you'll lose the chance to ever change.
That is currently the state I am in though. Hence why I need the push from external forces.

That is a good point, but I don't know how to apply it to more physical things, like going out of the house or making a pot of coffee. It's weird, I would rather get out of the house and buy food instead of making food in the house even though it would be quicker to make it in the house.

Some of my laziness will make you laugh. Like I don't want to watch a tv program, the tv remote is right in front of me and I am too lazy to get ge tthe remote and change it. :/

  3. Your sig a tremendous amount of sense now Damian, I know exactly where you are coming from.

I fought with depression (and still do to a lesser extent) for years when I was young. With me it was both a medical disorder and a situational condition. I know exactly why you don't want to leave the house, but hear me man. IT AIN'T HELPING YOU!!

Get the hell out of the house. You don't have to go anywhere, just get out of the house and into open air. You'd be surprised what some sunlight can do for you. Also, focus on your breathing more. It sounds goofy, but if you concentrate on consciously taking slow, controlled, deep breaths for about 15 minutes every hour or so it becomes hard to remain depressed. Don't ask me why it works.

Moreover, movement is the key to battling depression. Even if you have no rhythm, find someplace private and just start dancing. Put on some C&C and the Music Factory or something. Just get your body moving.

  4. The first part of that (the whole chalkboard thing) sounds more like obsessive-compulsiveness than anything else. The only thing I can tell you is that I used to do such things and I came out if it. But that's far from the biggest of your worries here. If I got to pick from these two, I'd much rather have OCD.

I don't want to imply that you're totally lazy or anything, but it sounds like anything that involves multiple steps is a turn off. But the thing is that if you think of every step as a different accomplishment, I'm sure you will be able to find that you are able to complete a task like going to the store and cooking food you buy there. How much coffee are you drinking, anyway? I hate to beat a dead horse, but you'd be amazed how much better you'll feel with a better diet (I'm confident in saying this even withough knowing a single thing about how or what you eat). It boosts energy, and thus, you'll find you're more willing to do something. What the worst thing that can result in that? It's a win-win. You feel better knowing you ate right, you feel better physically, and ergo, you can use that energy. More energy is good ;p

While an initial push from something outside can be a good starting point, it's a worthless foundation. All the therapy and motivational classes and sessions in the world wont do you a damn ounce of good unless you work with them.

Maybe you should stop making excuses, and start working. Failure comes with it, and that's alright, you just have to keep moving on. Life can be a shitty road that stretches on, but... You have to want to suck it up and get to the good points.

I can only wish you the best of help, and hope that you find something within yourself that will make everything else 'click'.

  6. I think I will take your advice and try getting myself out of the house. I used to just go somewhere and get myself lost. And somehow it made me feel better. I will try that again.

  7. Call Loveline and then do what they tell you to do.

    And TAKE YOUR MEDICATION.

  8. dude, sorry to hear about your problem. I know its been stated before in this thread, but you've gotta try and do something. Perhaps a holiday would help?

Hmmmm, I'm not sure. To begin with, they can be quite hard to learn, and having difficulties at yet another thing could be the last thing you want, however on the other hand, it could be just the sort of thing for you. You're a smart guy, so getting lessons with a good teacher could prove to be very successful.

I know it might not be your thing, but have you tried writing poetry or keeping a journal? Its supposed to be quite therapuedic.

  9. Grab your GBA and head to the park or something. It's good to be outside, going for a good walk is a great idea, especially if you've found its worked for you before.

When I'm sick or exhausted or something and it all looks like just too much to do, getting up is too hard or whatever, I've found that taking stock of my muscles helps. Can I move my arm? Legs? Apparently the answer is yes, so maybe I ought to stop being such a little wuss and get my ass in gear. But then again I've got very little patience for inability, and when that inability is in me it's twice as bad.

  10. well dam, it goes like this, you said you need external stimulation to push yourself, here we are, now get your ass moving! we have a workput thread, ressurect that one and get a workput schedual. do you have a gym that is local and affordable? i have done home gym and "real" gym, and i find you are more complete and do all your exercises by doing a real gym. also at said gym, see if they have an intermural volleyball/basketball/soccer group, most do,and those are good places to find friends if youa re on a team, you bond, period, either that or find a martial arts school nearby, martial arts generally are taught in a highly supportive environemnt where youa re taught by not only the main teacher, but all your classmates( observe 3 classes first,if you find a school where this is not the atmosphere, start looking again, this will not help.) i got 2 very good friends, a number of kids that looked up to me, and 2 very good reccomendations for better jobs out of bonds forged at class, see if that works. once you join, let us know, and give us DAILY updates, i want the info, and i want the truth, either do a thread or pm me with the daily stats of what you did. you have given us a lot of reasons why you arent moving, and i understand that these things can be tough in your shope, but you have to focus only on the small goals, and start to see the results. i expect to hear that you have checked out gyms and/or martial arts schools by monday night U.S. time. dont make me pm after you! I will pray for your fathers health(as well as racheal and parcher's grandfather, y'all are wearing out my prayer mp here) but you have to take the active role and we will hear about it,PERIOD!

i do this too, but to put emphasis on the piont, i turn on a light, turn on a faucet, and eat a bit of food. if i can take food, water and power for granted, and i can walk and move all body parts, i need to cheer up because a whole lot of people who are nicer than me cannot.
