Fantastic game so far!
Only complaint is the barriers that force you to get Pikmin types in a certain order seem a bit predictable and dull. After you get all the types I'm sure the level design gets more interesting?
I do think the caves work as a nice contrast to the overworld section, being claustrophobic, action-oriented segments. In a way, this game actually parallels Zelda now in the sense of exploring this whimsical world and peering into deep caves. The tightly structured strategy mentality of the first game is somewhat gone, but with other ideas in its place.
Concerning the framerate it seems to be a rock solid 30 fps to me, which is probably more natural than 60 fps. Also, some clever blurrying effects contribute to this...like whatever filters and effects they used to make the photo-realistic Piklopedia. The art direction for the creatures and Pikmin is also wonderful.
The multiplayer is better than I expected too! I was thinking cooperative play might work best for multiplayer Pikmin, but the VS battle really works well with the play mechanics and there are many strategic possibilities. Also nice is the generous selection of battle arenas (all randomly generated too, but with similar features for each). Already I've had some furious, memorable matches.
