Thread: Watchmen

  1. Koyaanisqatsi is an awesome film from the early eighties
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085809/ It's actually really cool.

whether it's because of the focus on the bit characters, or the graphic imagery, the first 6 or so pages of chapter 12 move me every time. i did not give a crap about the destruction in the movie.
hmm, well, I just didnt need to see detailed events in the lives of random city goers to remind me of how messed up it was for veidt to sacrifice them unwillingly. *shrugs* it was enough for me to see a glimpse of them getting annihilated from their pov to give a shit and know it was fucked up.

~ oh yeah, i would post the link but my pc is jacked, and im using a lol ps3 browser - the completely awesome opening credit scene of the movie was put on the web by the company in LA who created it.Did i mention how awesome it was?

Philip Glass composed that music. That whole scene with Dr. Manhattan on Mars is my favorite part and was very well done.

this movie does a totally awesome job of telling you what happened in watchmen, but it's no substitute for watchmen.
Burg nailed it. In the comic, when you see page after page of mangled bodies and a decimated NYC you really FEEL the weight of the sacrifice. The movie gives no real weight at all to the destruction of NYC. It played out like a weak version of the corresponding scene from Independence Day, Armageddon, Deep Impact, Day After Tommorow, etc.) Also, the movie makes it painfully obvious who killed The Comedian by showing you so many silhouette shots of the killer (which kills the pacing of the story). The book pivots from a murder mystery into something much bigger; the movie lays all it's cards on the table in the beginning and then neuters the ending. The movie is like Cliff Notes for the book.

I'm really hoping the director's cut brings back the power of the story, as Watchmen is my all-time favorite book and has been for well over a decade.

The implication is that Dr. Manhattan is sitting in outer space, ready to attack again if he sees anyone trying to start shit with nuclear weapons. Therefore, as long as people think Dr. Manhattan is watching them they won't seek nuclear war.

I think it's bullshit; part of the weight of the original ending came from the fact that it was a terrifying unknown quantity, an outside invasion that could come at any time. In the book, the world banded together in brotherhood. In the movie, the world put down their weapons because they know Daddy's watching. It's a significant difference in terms of emotional heft.

that was the 2nd largest quantity of uncircumcised blue penis I have ever seen in my life.

and I loved every second of it

The movie was great, pretty much as good a comic to film translation as you can expect from people. Looked amazing.

I didnt take it to mean that at all. The way i understood it,everyone thinks Manhattan flipped out in anger at the world and at humanity in general, and they are unifying to rebuild in his wake and to prevent him from doing more harm. Not that he was somehow angry at them because of nukes. Why would the populace even think that? The last time people saw him was on the news, getting pissed off, and transporting everyone out of....himself... out of the station.Did he appear and pull a Superman 4:Quest for Peace when i wasnt looking?

And then there will be a cut splicing in "Tales of the Black Freighter" that will run a whopping 205 minutes. Wow. This has been expected, but it's the first confirmation we've received since Snyder finished the film.
