Thread: Watchmen

  1. Probably the best review I've read for this flick that sums up my opinion perfectly.

    "Screenwriter David Hayter recently wrote an open letter, urging fans of Watchmen to keep seeing the movie, so that studios won’t be able to use disappointing box office receipts as an excuse to water-down, homogenize, and neuter future comic-book movies, and generally try to turn them into toy commercials and play dates for tweens. Hate to say it, but I actually agree with him."

  2. Ended up watching a good quality TS of it the other day. I enjoyed it but I have a few issues.

    For one, Ozy just seemed to small. In the comic you can believe him tossing around people like he does better because he's very muscular and in peak condition. The guy that played Ozy in the movie just looks like a scrawny dude with super powers.

    Catching the bullet wasn't nearly as cool as it was in the comic either.

    And while the new ending works it definitely changes the meaning which I'm not entirely happy with.

    All in all though, it was good, and I'm looking forward to the directors cut in the future that will add in a lot of cut scenes.

    Edit: oh yeah, one part that I really didn't like. The flashback where Laurie figured out that Blake was her father. I don't like that it was spelled out SO clearly in the father and mother arguing flashback, and I especially missed her fighting with Blake, throwing the drink at him and him replying to her saying shit about him trying to rape her mother with "I only tried to force her once" (or something along those lines). It's such a great scene and her figuring it out based on that is so much better than her hearing her father explicitly state what happened.

  4. Seriously, what did people want from this movie? Did you want it to be 10 hours long and some guy to come out and read from Under the Hood every hour or so?

  8. The more I think about this movie the more its growing on me. I think I might try and see it again.

    Yes.

    Plus I don't think anything myself or that you had issues with, changed to be more like the book would have resulted in the movie being any longer.

    I completely agree with you that the new ending completely changes things. Not for the better.

  10. I'm sorry I like both. I like the movie becuase it looks better* and I like the comic because it reads better.


    *after reading the comic again, Ozy is the weakest link in the movie. SSII is fine for who she is, however you feel her character develops more in the comic than on screen. In the movie, she starts of as a half-twit and ends as a half-twit. In the comic she starts off as a full-twit and ends as a no-twit. Needed more tele-puking too.
