Well if you read the CNN article you would see that incompetence is what killed Tillman and not accidental friendly fire--which makes the death even more tragic and pointless. The spin they put on the May news was misleading. RIF- Reading is Fundamental.

  2. Damn...............

  3. Mad respect to him for doing what he did but I think this story points out a lot of the flaws in Army special forces training and this was a good example of the problems they're having. We were given the detail by detail story about the matter in boot-camp and the whole thing was one fuck up after another, and these were very basic things they fucked up doing.

RIP Pat Tillman, you gave up a life of fame and fortune to fight for something you believed in and I have nothing but respect for that.

You can get Ranger on your job contract now, it's not what it was 10 years ago thanks to Rummy's want for Spec Op's. As my SDI said it "The Army Rangers have become nothing but a bunch of 18 and 19 year old tough guys." It's not just the Ranger's either, Marine Recon is starting to become a mess too. The Seals, Marine Force Recon, Air Force Para Rescue and Army Delta Rangers are still bad-asses but the more basic spec ops are becoming a joke.

  6. I understand that, just pointing out that the Army Special Forces is one thing, and an Army Ranger is another.

    Ranger Trains for 3 months.
    SF for 2 years.

What is an SDI? Senior Drill Instructor? Am I to be surprised that a Marine one of those would talk badly about something in the Army?

  7. There's a great bit in Dr. Strangelove, right after the Joint Chiefs realize that Jack Ripper, an Air Force General, has gone rogue and ordered his planes to drop their nukes on the USSR. The Army guy offers to send a division to take over the base, and snickers as he tells George C. Scott that his guys will brush aside his troops "without much trouble." And so a pissing match erupts between the armed services, even on the eve of nuclear apocalypse.

I think about this scene often when I read Gohron's posts.
