Well, technically, it's a new house with a a new coat of paint, but a similar house. They're both 2 story Victorians, but of course both are very different.
And it doesn't seem to be slapped together, rather another finely crafted Metroid adventure that took a little while to come out. You can't stop sequels. You might as well say that Microsoft had Bungie slap together another Halo, because that single player experience was balls-awful. Same goes for Vice City.

    2 questions:
What would you rather have had from another game in this series?

I can't figure you out. Are you a Nintendo hater, a me hater, a sequel hater, or just generally a giant, belligerent dildo?
Yea, and I don't like Halo 2 for the same reason you just described, that the SP is slapped together and generally not good, and the MP is nothing special (at least to me, I can find the same thing on PC).

You want to know how a sequel should be done, look at Half Life 2. Or, for that matter, San Andreas. This game just does little to excite me, as have most Nintendo games this generation, even though I've played and owned every one of their major releases.

Maybe if MP 2 had more actual features, didn't look the same as the last game, and didn't revolve the whole game around a gimmick, I'd be excited. Every Metroid sequel did alot to improve upon the previous games, but this just looks like Metroid Prime 1.5. Like I said, it seems Nintendo is desperate for anything this holiday season, and if this is what they can offer against true sequels like Half Life 2 and San Andreas, then wow.

Maybe it'll play nice, maybe it'll be a decent game, but I'll never shake the feeling that it will feel just like the same damn thing Nintendo already brought out, but just used their infamous gimmick move instead of making a sequel that had REAL improvements in the gameplay.

And yea, your little comment at the end was a little immature, and I don't remember where I ever insulted you. I just insulted your little "me too" game. Try and act a little bit more mature next time. I've listed all my reasons for not liking the game, and you go ahead and call me a dildo? Good job there ace.

I'm guessing he would have rather had something new and innovative, rather than "Metroid Prime + New Gimmick".

And I'm guessing he's a pragmatist, and you're an apologist. Roufuss' post was merely questioning why you felt the need to point out what has been obvious all along: MP2 is a formulaic sequel.

EDIT: Dammit, outresponded! But I was right, tho.

Yeah, but at least the house kicked ass to begin with. I don't mind revisiting that house every once in a while when it gets remodeled a bit.

Thank you, at least someone understands.

Neither would I, but when there's such better houses to visit for the first time on the same block, I'm not going to go back to the old house.

I'm sorry I called you a giant dildo. I'm feeling down from all the Nintendo hate. I'm not a Nintendo fanboy, but I'm sick of specific Nintendo hate when people are dropping their pants over all the new sequels that are slightly updated versions of their older incarnations. (Also I suppose I don't like to be told to STFU)

Now I'll exclude HL2 even though I haven't played it because of the brand-new engine, but it is not essentially that different from HL1 in terms of presentation (storytelling) and gameplay. (run n gun/suspense FPS) GTA:SA is also at its core the same game, but incredibly expanded. The sequel list goes on and on and they're all basically the same game as their predecessors. Even Doom 3 is the same game, only the technology has jumped so far it managed to do a few new things.

I thought MP was about as tight as it could get, and the new game has made changes - different guns, different world/enemies, updated graphcis. (as updated as it can get I'm assuming on the GC) It also added the screw attack, and of course the light-dark premise, which may/may not feel gimmicky to me after I play it. I can't judge it yet, but I'll tell you how I feel about it. I just don't understand what else you could want from a Metroid game. They're specifically trying to keep it within the Metroid canon. And every Metroid game has been a formulaic sequel.

I really don't see what kind of innovation is allowed for within a metroid sequel, and that goes to both Shadow Not Shade and Roufuss. It's not like you'd take a GTA game and turn it into a Battlefield game. All the metroid games have been formulaic sequels, and I was under no illusions about this one, I just posted it because...well it's general information about the game.

Depending on the dark/light premise, it might not be as formulaic as you think, either.

But I mean at the end of the day, if you don't want more Metroid Prime, that's your opinion. I said from the first that

Have you not played Doom 3? Doom 2 to Doom 3 is a radically different game, not only in graphics, but in gameplay as well.

And Half Life 2's gameplay is ALOT different from Half Life 1, mainly due to all the physics involved.

I did exclude HL2 because it is radically different due to the new engine. (The new physics-based source engine)

And yeah, I played Doom 3 start to finish, (on a friend's pc) and I couldn't believe how much it felt like Doom 2. Without the vastly vastly updated graphics, which is only the product of the long time between the releases (and thus newer technology becoming available) I'd say it was almost the same game gameplay-wise, plus a soulcube. It's the same pick up items/imps come at you/shotgun them gameplay.

The biggest advancement in Doom 3 was the story/atmosphere. Picking up PDA's, scientists and NPC's talking, and of course the lighting effects were huge advances, and a product of being able to use new technology.

Unfortunately for Metroid, we'll have to wait for some new hardware to see leaps of that magnitude, though currently I find the scanning method of revealing contextual story at your own pace to be great.

So I'm not saying it's the next coming of christ, (that seems to be HL2,) but I'm hot diggity damn excited to be getting another high-quality Metroid adventure.

Shit I like you Roufuss, sorry for the stupidity. I'm not an apologist by nature. I guess I should've taken my own warning:

At least give it a chance and don't give in to pessimism.

    Uhhh, Doom 2 > Doom 3.

Doom 3 was never hectic enough to be a good Doom game or smart enough to be a good modern FPS.
