Thread: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - Official Thread

  1. I just beat it a few minutes ago. I must say, I was very satisfied. I finished it with 86% my first time through. Samus is pretty cute.

The Emperor Ing totally raped me when I first encountered him, managed to get to his third form the second time, and got raped again. Took him down on my third try. I beat Dark Samus the second time through.

  2. Torvus Bog ruined the game for me.

It's shittily made, the levels don't really flow at all, and the water just annoyed me, even after I got the Gravity Boost.

Beginning of the game was awesome... lot's of story, lots of exploration, and then everything just hits a brick wall the minute you get into the bog, and the whole game slows to this screeching halt.

I *loved* it up until this point, the next world better be amazing for me to keep interest.

Not to mention the bog has insane amounts of backtracking, even for a Metroid game, and the bosses are very very lame.

I hate water levels, so very much.

  3. The next level is the most beautiful futuristic setting you will see in a videogame.
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

    Good.

I'm ALMOST done with this damn Torvus Bog, I've got all three keys and I'm going to wrap it up now.

But seriously, this reminds me of a movie where the beginning and end parts are so great, but the middle drags on forever and brings down the entire movie.

In other news: Fuck this game, seriously. Maybe it's just because I've played it all day, but the tedium of it all has really gotten to me. I've never ever felt bored while playing a 2d metroid game, yet this one is starting to grate my nerves and bore me to death.

I feel like I should be at the end of the game, when I still have one more hub plus the end of the game to get through.

Maybe I just burnt myself out on it, but I'm really struggling to finish the rest of the game. It makes me a bit sad, as I've played all the 2d ones multiple times, and I got this same exact feeling with the original Metroid Prime too.

I thought because Echoes was a new setting, new creatures, and new ambience, that maybe it would be a bit different. But about 2/3's of the way through the game, it just gets boring. I guess, imo, they just made these games too long, or maybe the Torvus Bog just sucked all my enthuiasm straight out of the game.

Were complete opposites because I thought that level was great.

This is correct, I'm really enjoying this level.

It seems to be the most linear level I've played in a Metroid game, but I really enjoy it so far. Creative enemies, nice setting. Definately got me re-excited for the game again.

Not looking forward to the key hunt at the end though =/

It pissed me off last night though, big time, and I still feel it's missing a sense of flow. But I'll finish it to the end, just to see if it gets even better, and if the latter half of the futuristic level dosen't suck.

  7. Agree with Roufuss on Torvus (I put Echoes aside for a week because I got sick of the bog), and with Astro on the next area (the temple boss is an incredible battle).

Finished this weekend, at 29 hours and 93%.

The original Prime is my all-time favorite, and Echoes doesn't quite equal it. The inclusion of the Space Pirates and Metroids seems incidental in Echoes, and Aether isn't as well designed as Tallon IV.

I wish there was more use of the screw attack and Echo visor. In fact I was hoping for an Echo beam.

    A wonderful and brilliant game.

Totally disagree, Multi Missile is the way to go when fighting the tentacles, that way it's easily possible to take out several at once, plus it conserves beam ammo for the 3rd form of the final boss where once again, Multi Missile (Seeker Missile I believe) is great for damaging him enough to expose his heart and then once that's accomplished, Annihilator Beam his ass to death, at least, that's what I did.

No, finding all nine keys took me about an hour and a half, if you've scanned all the dead Luminoth you've come across then you should have keybearer lore, use that and look at the words highlighted in red, then go to you map and look for the rooms with similar names or whatever. Get out a pad of paper and write all that shit down, use your check list and boom you should be able to find all of them pretty damn quick.

  9. Just got back into it over the weekend, beat the Sanctuary boss.

Before I even did that I'd already gotten 2 Sky Temple keys, and know exactly where another is (didn't have the right beam at the time). So I'm already 1/3 through that before I've even officially started hunting them down.

  10. between working and other shit I havent had enough time to play this Im still in the santuary which is just a beautiful level and personally I had no problem with the bog, by the end I actually liked the bog, the enemies in there are a bit challanging and it wasnt bad for a water level

Im at 78% scans, 52% items and about 13 hours in
    Where I play
