Thread: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - Official Thread

  1. I'm another person that fell into the not finishing Metroid Prime slump. I loved Fusion and Zero Mission, and I can tell that Prime is a good game, but I just never feel like I'm getting anywhere and I always stop playing after a short while.

2 years and I have 9 hours at 33%. At this rate I'll finish it about the time PS4 comes out.

  2. Time for a bump on this thread.

While yes, I did get bored with Metroid Prime and had to force myself to finish it, there's no mistake that it's a soild game.

So, when's this bitch come out?

Damn I was just looking for this thread to express my excitement. I dunno why you guys couldn't get into it enough to finish. There were some amazing hiding places for stuff, and some sequences with the x-ray visor were super-keen. The plasma beam makes everything happy, as well, as do super combos. I had way too much fun with this game.

I did think the last boss was way too hard the first time I played it, but it only took me two more tries to beat it. Just the right difficulty, in my opinion. I loved every single moment of this game.

Esp. the fact that it reminded me a lot of playing my favourite tv show of all time, Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Unlike Halo 2, I'm all about the single player for this game. I could totally care less about multi. If the SP is as polished and has as much attention to detail paid to it as the last one, then this may well be the top GC game of the year.

But sadly, the worst high profile FPS of the year.

Meh. It's not really an FPS in my eyes as much as it is action/adventure. 80% the joy I get from it is exploratory, but unlike most of you guys I find the combat system lots of fun. It allows you to truly be as badass as Samus is in the 2d games while providing a decent challenge.

I'm not going to lie to you guys though. The first game is in my top 10 for this generation. I'm a big Metroid fanboy. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

As opposed to, say, Half Life 2, or Deus Ex: IW?

Well the entire metroid franchise is about finding your shit, not unlike Zelda merged with Castlevania. Like I said in the next sentence, that's why I like the series. It's also really why I like Zelda as much as I do. I'm kind of tired of the Castlevania series now though.

Half Life 2 is going to be a fantastic, cinematic fps with excellent presentation etc. The focus is on shooting guys though, not exploring. Like Call of Duty with really big aliens. (Another game on my top 10 list.)

Deus ex is a fantastic story driven fps/rpg. I didn't really dig the combat in the first one too much either but loved the rpg/story elements. But again the focus isn't on exploring. They're all different flavors of FPS, but I'd say Metroid Prime and Deus Ex (The Original, haven't played any since. I should.) are both unique takes on the standard FPS, which we can call Serious Sam.

Metroid has all those little puzzles to be solved with your abilities. And when I see an area I can't quite access without some new gadget, I ache inside. I love these types of games.

Are there any other games/series besides this, zelda, and Castlevania(specifically SotN) that I am completely missing out on in terms of exploratory nirvana?

Has anyone been to the official website? I think it's pretty slick. I'll probably go through all of it when I get off work.
