You have to take into account that it's been a while since the last true Shining Force game and the SRPG genre has evolved during that time. Set in their original context, it was a fun series, and hopefully Sega will evolve the franchise instead of just remaking the previous game's systems.

  2. Well sure Shining for was decent in it's day... but it wasn't exactly top of the heap then either. In fact, 16/32bit SRPGs like Tactics Ogre, FF Tactics, Ogre Battle 64, Fire Emblem 3-5 or Front Mission 1-3 not only favorably compare with Shining Force 1-3, they manage to favorably compare with anything released later as well.

  3. Site is up: http://shining-world.jp/

Opens april 30th. (right after Sega's E3 press conference)
    !

  4. Camelot's lack of involvement takes it down a notch for me, but the thought that the folks behind Panzer Dragoon Saga could be involved has piqued my intrest.

It sure as hell took long enough, after Shinobi & Contra got gloriously revived on PS2 after being DOA for so many years I was wondering when they'd ever get around to new Shining Force games
    omg TNL epics!

  6. I'm hoping Shining Tears will be either a sequel to the Shining In The Darkness/Shining The Holy Ark 3D dungeon RPG or dare I say it...an online Shining Soul action RPG ala PSO or Diablo. And follow up with a GBA version of Shining Force II and Shining Force III and I will be set

  7. Considering how crappy Sega's games have been lately I find it funny that you guys are getting excited over these.

Hey, their sports games kicked ass this year. ESPN NBA is easily my most played game of the last 6 months

    This they should do.

Hmm. I think I like this, actually. Camelot's been behind some real stinkers, so I'll hold judgement until we get some more info.

Most of the folks behind the Saturn Panzers (Team Andromeda) ended up at UGA actually. After the team was gutted, I'm not sure where the highest concentration of staff ended up (Sonic Team?).

Both new Shining Force games being handled by Amusement Vision (most likey the former Smilebit team there). Shining Tears is likely being outsourced to an external developer or subsidiary.

I'd agree here, Mario Golf GBC is pretty easily the best RPG in their portfolio imo.
