  2. It was way better than the first one. I'd give it a 7/10. I didn't really care much for the main characters, and I feel there needed the military to be more envolved, not so much close ups of Pred fighting, and less main characters.

    Aliens is better than every other Alien and Predator movie combined. It's fucking genius. I really mean that.
    The first Predator is = Aliens imo. Predator 2 was good, but it's hard for people to get used to not seeing Arnold. All in all, the first two movies of each franchise were great, its the rest that dont match it. Another key thing about the first Predator, and the first two Alien movies is the suspense. You dont even get to see the villian for a good 20 to 30 min into the movie. You just see people getting owned. ALso the concept of the two movies were so original at the time, that now it's hard to match that.

    Wrong. Aliens is one of the finest action movies of all time. Predator is a great movie but it's nowhere near Aliens level.

  4. Between the two, I liked Predator more. Mainly because it didn't have the "Newt" problem that Aliens did.

    I also give Predator the slightest of edges because it was a completely new creature, where Aliens is an expanded vision of something that already existed.

    On the other hand, Private Hudson > everyone in Predator (except the creature and Dutch), and almost makes up for the presence of Newt.

    I keep forgetting that the Predator was a shape-shifting alien early in the film's development (that's what it is in the tie-in novel). Plans were for the Predator to turn into various jungle-dwelling animals like a snake and tiger during the film.

    Anyone know if the original Predator is mentioned on the SE DVD anywhere? It'd be interesting to learn how and why the design evolved.

  8. Before the design change, the Predator was this goofy dinosaur thing with an elongated neck and a tiny head.



    The actor wearing it had to wear stilts and be supported by wires. Shooting in the jungle, this was deemed impratical. James Cameron was called in as a consultant, didn't like the design, and recommended Stan Winston to redesign and create the Predator. On a flight with Winston, Cameron was said to have come up with the idea of adding mandibles to the creatures mouth.

    Hey, we all know what an Arnold whore I am, and Predator is indeed a totally awesome movie (I fucking love the scene when a mud-covered Arnold bellows out that war cry while holding the torch).     Predator deserves an edge for that reason, but Aliens deserves major props for being a sequel that took an established creature and, instead of churning out a rehash, took it in the totally opposite direction and fucking running with it.

  9. The guy in the suit before the change was Jean Claude Van Damme, IIRC.

    The DVD has some footage of an actor (probably Van Damme) wearing an all-orange version of that suit for effects shots.
