This preview makes me really look forward to this game! It looks like a Secret of Mana for PS2 that doesn't suck! (Legend of Mana I am looking at you)

This looks like it could be a lot of fun...
Now we just have to wait for sega to turn it into an unplayable mess.
Too late.

Have you played the import? Impressions, man!Originally Posted by Ammadeau
Nope, otherwise I would have elaborated, but I've discussed it with people who have and everyone says it's just not very good. I still want to give it a try when it comes out in the US though, because I sometimes enjoy games other people consider mediocre.Originally Posted by animegirl20

I've heard the same exact thing, how much it sucks.
This game is horrid. HORRID. I am shocked they
even translated it, it will do nothing but further tarnish
Sega's reputation in the US.
On the bright side Shining Force NEO (due in Japan on 3/24) is looking MUCH better. I think that may be the game to finally restore Sega's
good name to the masses.
LOL For some reason, I HIGHLY doubt that. It'll never happen.Originally Posted by blueskied
Well I still think NEO will be great. It's looking like an evolved version of Shining the Holy Ark for the Saturn (great game), sans the first person roaming perspective.
One of the most laughable parts of Shining Tears is the loading times.
You have to wait about THIRTY SECONDS every time you ENTER OR EXIT a town, battle, house, etc. After about an hour of playing you either find yourself falling asleep at the loading screen, or lunging towards your PS2 to chuck it out the window.
There are many other things that contribute to the horridness of this game.
The towns are small and boring with few characters to interact with.
The screen has scrolling problems, you may have to constantly remind yourself you are not playing a first gen 32-bit game on the 3DO.
The story sucks immensely. It's one of most poorly written stories I've ever seen (it's as if they just threw a rock down some main street in Tokyo and asked the first person they hit to give them a story for an adventure game in 30 seconds or less, then they wrote that down and built a game around it).
A japanese reviewer made this comment about the poorly written dialogue (my translation): "much of the dialogue in the game is so lifeless, monotone, and drab, it's as if they are reading lines in a foreign language". He then ended the review with a great line (again, my translation): "it's been awhile since I've been confronted with such a shit game".![]()
