I think this game is worth getting even if the online play is barely playable. It's $20, it's amazing and it's better then spending $30 on the PS2 version which isn't nearly as polished as this one.
I love May.
THE END
I played someone with a "good" connection my first match and it was unplayable. Then I found an "excellent" guy who I was able to play 30 rounds at a very good speed with, occasionally lagging. If all the matches were like that, there'd be no problem.Originally Posted by bahn
Depending on how the game is in the months ahead, this is probably all I'll play online for a while.

And it's still better than putting down any amount of money for Guilty Gear Isuka.

Spent some time with this tonight. Xbox controller is terrible for it. I'd invest in a MagicBox or something, but the online play is completely unplayable. The lag was so bad that I couldn't even properly select my character. I don't know how much more "polished" it is than XX, other than a filled-out Robo-Ky, but my brother is taking it back tomorrow and getting Burnout 3 or something.
It really depends on how much you like the guilty gear series. If it is your favorite, or even one of your more liked series, i would suggest keeping #R, since it is a big change, and the more you play, the more apparent it is. If you play casually, it will be hard to tell the difference from XX, and with a poor internet connection, the game appears to be quite unplayable.

Well, he bought it, not I. But regardless, I'll just have to take your word for it. I played for several hours, and didn't really notice anything different...except for the lag. And my connection is fine, since all the other online games I play work great. I'm not saying a have a great connection, but it's clearly good enough for everything else, so I'm pointing the finger. And maybe May is broken as hell now...seems like that may be one of the new features.
Online interface is really bare bones too. Just barely a step up from CvS2's. What really disappoints me though, is how all the reviews just raved about it's smooth online play. Every one of them.
I know someone is getting a good connection cause they were doing combos that I couldn't even dream of doing. I'll try direct connecting, but I don't think that will help. I played a couple matches of CvS2 afterwards and man it was great. Lag was very little...so yeah, if reload had been as good as my CvS2 matches, it would be perfect for me...but oh well...
So yeah like it isn't just lag or delay, cause if that was the case, wouldn't it be that I would do say a combo string and then it would come out on screen? I'm not actually able to complete certain moves, they just will not come out...moves I have no problem doing offline...
Well I feel bad for people who bought this to try and get matches in where there wasn't any local competition...but as a game, in offline mode, reload is leeps and bounds better than XX. It's just a better game, there are tons of subtle tweaks that make it that much better.
May isn't broken, she's strong and fun to use and her forward punch has crazy dizzy potentional...but yeah she isn't in the top tier or anything...

The only one I read, GMR, complained about the lag.Originally Posted by FuryFox
And yeah, I got this yesterday, too. I have no clue how to play this at all. Someone want to help me out with the basics, or point me towards a helpful online resource? I'm pretty good at fighting games, but I've never even looked at GG.

Hit up Gamecombos.com an watch as many match vids as you can, just watch the way U.S. players and Japanese players play and try to define your style this way. The Japanese are amazing cause they can take a bottom tier character and play them like they are tops...Originally Posted by Mzo
