The main thing I dislike about these presequels and such is that, despite the obviousness that the character survives to exist in the sequels, is that there's no continuity with all the obviously new moves and abilities you'll have in the prequel.
from the june issue of psm, courtesy of Mariner from the gaming age forum:that "style system" seems interesting. nice to see that capcom hasn't given up on this series after part 2.DMC3 Highlights
- The game is a prequel.
- The series producer Tsuyoshi Tanaka wants to return to the visual style of the first game.
- Many of the games stylish action features will not be in the E3 demo to avoid spoiling the surprise.
- The core of gameplay in DMC3 revolves around a new feature called the "style system". You will be able to chose a specific style at the beginning. Gunslinger, Swordmaster, Trickster, and Royal Guard are the four styles revealed thus far. As you progress through the game, you can distribute points into categories related to the style you are using. Each style has its advantages and disadvantages. How Dantes Demon powers will work is still a secret, but he gradually remembers powers as you progress through the game.
- DMC3 is currently planned to last about as long as the first game and it will be just about as puzzle focused.
- Tanaka admits that DMC2s large open level design meant that most players could use guns for the entire game. In DMC3, the levels have been designed to test long range and melee fighting skills equally.
- DMC3 has a brand new 3D engine
- This allows for new special effects. For example, an enemy might form from sand, spew sand when hit, and return to sand when you kill it.
- The environments are much more destructable.
- Shadows and lighting are much more realistic
- Weather effects
- DMC3 will be mission based (like the others), but will feature intro movies to each mission and completetion movies that move the storyline along.
- Some missions have no bosses, and some have multiple bosses.
- A new mysterious female character whos involvement is unknown at the moment.
The main thing I dislike about these presequels and such is that, despite the obviousness that the character survives to exist in the sequels, is that there's no continuity with all the obviously new moves and abilities you'll have in the prequel.
Boo. They're not even puzzles and what does consist of "puzzles" is just a retarded excuse for reusing environments in forced backtracking. STOP IT.the first game and it will be just about as puzzle focused. It also meant the camera was no longer the greatest enemy to grace a Capcom game. I don't see any comments regarding that, so it's probably the same fixed angle bullshit.- Tanaka admits that DMC2s large open level design meant that most players could use guns for the entire game.
Besides, it's not like I didn't use guns most of the time in DMC anyway (mostly because playing keep away was so much safer thanks to the camera). Why is that listed like it's solely a problem of DMC2?
[edit] How about a happy comment from me?
The style system sounds really cool. (In Starship Troopers fashion: ) Why yes, I would like to know more.
I like the fact they're aiming for things more akin to DMC1. They obviously know DMC2 sucked, and are working to fix it.
And FuryFox, does it say Dante is in it? Seems like it might be a different character, so your problem with them not having the moves in the game following the prequel might not end up being a problem at all. Maybe you'll be as the Dark Knight Sparta or whatever his dad's name was... who knows.
Edit:
- The game takes place before DMC 1. "Dante does not know his true orgin, or even his name."
Guess that gets rid of my no Dante idea![]()
Some of those points just sounds like they've been done before a million times, and they have, I mean weather effects.. jesus. And they should just skip the "puzzle" parts, it's degrading looking for amulets and what not and placing them in the room next door. I'm in day one though.
What exactly sucked about the second one? I've never played it, so I don't know. The only thing I know is that I'm still not close to beating the first, because that game pretty much made me its bitch.
WARNING: This post may contain violent and disturbing images.
It was really easy, had a story that made no sense (much worse than the first even), Dante lost all his personality, and the moves in it were less cool, if you ask me.
You couldnt fire the handguns like crazy anymore... I hated that... no matter how fast you tried to shoot, the speed was reducted quite a bit.
Open level design was boring and ugly too. And did I mention how easy the game was? What a joke.
Eh, the list of features doesn't interest me. If we can get the style of DMC2 with the superior gameplay of DMC1 and more, I'm down. I'm one of the few people I know that liked DMC2. Granted, if I paid $50 for it, I might have been a bit angry, because it was definitely a step down from the first DMC. It was way too easy, hell, even the Must Die modes weren't even a challenge. But regardless of that, I got a decent amount of fun out of it, and ... come on, it's awesome to see Dante cross his guns in front of his chest to shoot enemies on both sides of him, and then shoot someone behind him without even looking.
Considering DMC3 will be moving back toward DMC1's type of play, I'm going to be looking forward to this one.
You had to build up the guns to do so. They eventually fired really fast, it just wasn't built in from the start like it was in the first game.Originally Posted by NoFace
I personally thought the moves added were cool, if generally useless.
I like what I saw of DMC 3 in the mag, very impressive.
