Thread: Gamecube controller with a good d-pad

Gamecube controller with a good d-pad

I play my GBA games through my GB Player way more than on GBA. The only problem is that the GC d-pad blows and the analog isn't ideal as a digital stick. Can anyone recommend a GC controller with a good d-pad?

  2. I've heard good things about the Hori Digital Controller.

  3. That looks like the best controller I've seen here in the "US of S." I'm getting used to the d-pad on the regular GC pad, but this one looks like it's got the best one available. Hopefully, a third party pad that can make use of all of the GC controller's features has a nice d-pad as well.

That does indeed look nice and since they skipped the analog entirely, that's a good sign the d-pad is quality.

  5. I've got the Hori controller, and it's great. If you're using it to play GBA games, I think you'll love it.

  6. I picked up one of those PS2 controller converters that allows me to play an Xbox or a Gamecube with a PS2 pad. It works fairly decent and was only $10. The Hori pad doesnt look that bad, but if you try it out and dont like it i think the converter might be your last choice.

They also make ones where you can use an Xbox controller with a PS2/GC, if thats your deal.

  7. I too use the Hori digital controller, it's modelled after the SNES pad which had one of the best d+pads ever and works beautifully.

Best part is that it can even be used on certain GC games which don't make use of the analog or C-stick and the d+pad is preferred for use
    omg TNL epics!

  8. Which GC games don't make use of the analog or C sticks? I'm interested in knowing, as I'd love to be able to use the Hori pad for more than just GB Player stuff, which in and of itself would likely make it worth the price.

  9. The hori controller's d-pad is acceptable. For GBA games I think it's more than OK. After a little bit of breaking in it's actually pretty good.

The only dislikes I have are that the buttons are more "clacky" than the stock pad, and the odd bumps on the back of the controller.

  10. I use the hori pad for GBA games, Soul Calibur 2, and Viewtiful Joe.
