Thread: mega man battle network 4

  1. it's not too bad, but very noticeable coming right off of playing mmbn3 the other day. if you're new to the game, of course, it won't matter at all.

8 hours in. uhm...i think the reason for the pause is that maybe the games doing a save/load kinda deal. if your in full synch at the end of a fight, it carries over to the next fight. that's the only reason i can see for the whole pause thing. also picked up my first soul: guts soul. it's great. i want more.

  2. I'd just like to point out that Brady Games' guide on MMBN4 has a perpatory section that was named "The Set Up (You Need This)", which is also the name of a Reel Big Fish song.
For that, Brady Games deserves a hug.
    A big one.
Otherwise, I do need to pick this game up. Is it on sale anywhere?

  3. should be out everywhere now. i'm about 30 hours in and almost through the normal game mode. i'll post more impressions and stuff later.

  4. well well well...

after playing this game for a great deal of time now, i have to say that it is one of the best in the series. for those that don't know, the game is broken up into 3 difficulty modes. you play through normal mode and receive your first 3 (random) soul unisons. in hard mode you get 2 more, and in the final dificulty you get the last one. the cool thing about all this is that you don't have to start over from scratch each time. you start over with all the chips you collected, your current max hp (whatever you had when you finished the game), and your navi customizer with whatever programs you picked up.

the vs mode in the game plays out a little different from the previous one with the soul unisons. to me it seems a bit more exciting 'cause you never know what soul your friend will use at what time. and each soul has unique atributes. right now i have guts, roll, and thunder soul. guts has a guts machine gun that renders you invincible while activated. it's charge shot is a close range gutspunch and it adds +30atk to any non atribute (element) chip that you use.

another cool thing about this game is info trading. basically, you keep record of the bosses you beat in whatever version you have and once beaten you can trade/send their info to your friends game to participate in free tournaments that are held at higsbys shop. each boss navi's info is sent over with your friends current hp and also uses their folder. it's pretty crazy having to fight wood man with a bunch of area steals and the gundelsoul chip(from boktai). if you beat the boss navis in the last round of the tournament you get "secret" chips that can only be won through the free tournaments. if you beat a normal navi, however, you only get about 3000 zenny or some bug frags.

i can't really think of anything else to mention about this game. i'm really just loving every minute of play i get out of it. this series seems to always have something new to add. i seriously can't wait to see what they do with the next game.

  5. Awesome impressions, rama, I'll have to get this soon. I *thought* I saw Boktai's Django in a screenshot, looks like my eyes weren't decieving me with news of the Gun Del Sol being in there. I'm surprised they pulled that cameo off, what with the games being from 2 different companies.

  6. Good looking out Rama.

I need to just sit down one of these weekends and finish up MMBN3 so I can give this a try.

I totally agree that every game in the series just keeps getting better and better.

  7. not this one. the storyline makes me want to gouge out my eyes.

remember how in previous games, there would sometimes be a quest that forced you to look through every area of the net for some hard-to-find knicknack? this game seems to consist entirely of that crap.

example: in one quest, you have to find ghost navis. the sadistic part is that the navis are invisible, so the only way you can find them is by running through every square foot of every area you've been to, hoping that your "ghost detector" goes off. if this is your idea of fun, then buy away.

course, i wasn't too enamored with part 3. the gameplay improvements didn't justify a new game then, and even less has changed now.

I played through that again the other day, and the fact there's no run button and no way to put in escape chip in permanent memory killed it for me.

Pllus the fact that it takes so much time to find the boss navi's and HOPE you can get them perfectly.

  10. to be fair, part 2 is a worthy sequel, and is much better than the first part. it even fixes that gripe about the boss characters.
