But, you have to remember, the movie only has to be of small resolution for playing on a DS. As well, the sound could be mono, and really, that's be good enough, even when using headphones or whatnot.

A two hour movie would certainly be stretching it, but I've got 1-hour Japanese TV shows that are full TV resolution that clock in around 350MB or so that are pretty damn decent. So, you never know.

I'm curious to see the DS... I've been wanting an SP, but if the DS will play all GBA games, I think I'll wait to see how it turns out, and then maybe get one of those instead.

The reason why I am not all the interested in the Sega annoucment is probably because I have been desensitized by Nintendo's Megaton!!1
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the companies have their press conferences before the show opens up on Wednesday.

I think it will be more exciting to be there the minute of the Segaton announcement. That, and I am also a Sega fanboy at heart.

  3. according to new reports from CNN, the system could very well be just 2 screens. meaning that pretty much the touch screen would be all that's used for controls. makes it alot easier to imagine what the system will look like to.

i personally don't see them doing anything without a D-Pad though. i guess we'll have to wait just a few more days.

Touch screens wouldn't make good primary controls. They are too sensitive, sans the satisfying "click", and you can't rest you fingers on them. I'm all for games utilising the screen for custom controls. How cool would that be! Press the item you want to use, draw with your finger, pie-menus... the possibilties are endless.
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

  5. yeah, i personally don't see them ditching the D-Pad, A, B, L, and R buttons. those supposed specs that were going around a while back had them on there, and IGN claims that it was a lot like what they had heard from their sources.

i know the touch screen is going to be one of the main focuses of the system, but i doubt it's gonna be the only controller for the system.

here's a clip from the CNN article though.
"This will not be a machine where you push the 'A' button or 'B' button and move the direction pad, but a completely different way to interact with the device," said Hirokazu Hamamura, president of "Famitsu" game magazine publisher EnterBrain.
    here's the rest of it.

and just for more random info, here's what Peer from IGN had to say about the system.

With all the talk about how baffling and strange the DS may seem to all of us, it's easy to forget that the system's true measure lies in the game lineup. Having an inkling of what games are being shown at E3 next week, I can now confidently state that I'll be buying the system the day it comes out.

While some of the games didn't exactly NEED a dual-screen handheld to work, expect to see some titles where it'll instantly click and you'll go "oh, of course!"

And how can you not like a system where you can draw a circle around a menu option to select it.

  6. I'm intrigued again... I'm glad we get to see this thing soon, sounds like it might be pretty sweet after seeing which developers/publishers are on board already. At least it's not a Virtual Boy 2 based on that alone.

Today Koei confirmed their participation in Nintendo DS development with the announcement of their first DS title, "Shin Sangoku Musou DS", a tentative title. The game will be based on the classic gameplay of the million-selling series, known as "Dynasty Warriors" in the west, but will feature new ideas suited to the DS that will create a new gameplay experience. Character graphics and the game system will also be altered to suit a Nintendo audience. The release date is currently undecided.

Translation: "We're gonna replace everyone with Mario characters and remove the strategy aspect of the game."

I'm sorry, but somebody had to make that joke.

Either they will make another "Mystic Heroes" game, or they will make it into something like pokemon.
