JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Talent is abundant at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Students fortunate enough to be selected to attend school here are proficient in music, dance, and art.

But the question as to what constitutes art has some parents concerned. Nude photographs of children, ranging from three to about thirteen, were shown to a class on a PBS video at the Southside magnet school. The pictures were so disturbing for one family, they decided to file a police report, asking for an investigation.
    The Story

SALLY MANN has exhibited and taught nationally in de US. Her work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art , the Whitney Museum, and other famous museums. She lives in Lexington, Virginia, with her husband and three children, whom she continues to photograph as part of an ongoing project. Lot's of these photographs are published in the book "Immediate Family"
    This is art?
    More disease

    SICK!
    Dum de dum dum DUMB!!!

  2. I don't think there is anything wrong with these pictures. They show a family that is very close together. People have a way of over sexualizing things. Little kids run around naked all the time. If you see something sexual about it then it is your own perverted mind, and not the pictures themselves. I think some of those pictures are beautifully shot.

The only sick thing about those pictures is none of the children smild. Its really weird to see 30 odd shots of children, and none of them be happy.

It's not so much the fact that they are nude. There are some very disturbing things about the pictures. In one of the pictures, the child appears to be dead. The child is wearing clothes in this particular picture.

According to the law, pictures of nude children is allowed. Lude poses are not. I find some of the poses and suggestions to be lude and disturbing.

Exactly. There's something very disturbing about these photos.

Personally, I think it's because of overpopulation that we keep seeing more and more nude children in advertising and on T.V.

Studies done with rats in an over crowded tank proved conclusively that overpopulation causes increased homosexuality and pedophilia.

    Just an oppinion.
    Dum de dum dum DUMB!!!

  5. "In 1984, Sally Mann began photographing her three children-Jesse, Virginia and Emmett-at their summer
house near Lexington, Virginia. The images show the children wearing bathing suits, light summer clothes,
or no clothes at all, and their self-assured posturing is spellbinding. Mann's often controversial
photographs depict the fascinating narratives that expose parental fears and the vulnerability and defiance of children.
In Black Eye, she focused on Virginia's upper torso and face, the child's bruised eye
(resulting from a mishap with a hammock) evident as she dozes in a sheltering wing chair.

Reminiscent of Victorian postmortem images, the sitter's serene face gently bathed in a soft light, her folded
hands, and her oddly arranged hair make it difficult to determine whether the child is actually dead or alive."

If you would take two seconds to READ instead of just making snap judgements it clearly states the circumstances behind this picture.

EDIT: And it's LEWD not LUDE.

If they disturb you so much stop looking at them. There are pictures of people torturing POWs form Iraq and you are obsessing over the fact that a woman took pictures of her children doing natural things? I think your priorities are messed up.

It's disturbing. I never suggested that she punched the kid. The whole thing is just a weird, disturbing sexually deviant example of our amoral society.

Uh, not really. My father and I protest the war to government employees and millionaires at Toastmasters meetings weekly.

  9. I'm going to have to agree with anime girl... If they do disturb you so much, dont look at them.

as for wether or not the pictures are lewd etc or not... Some of them are beautiful. i wish they smiled more though. you have to remember that its their mother behind the camera. as long as they were ok... i dont see a problem. this some what reminds me of that whole thing with Robert Mapplethorpe, who was a photographer who took some very beautiful pictures.

  10. No where near Maplethorpe bad as far as subject matter goes.

Some are pretty good, slice of life pictures of a life I'll never know are interesting to look at.
