Thread: Official Tobal 2 English Patched

  1. I expect impressions and thoughts from those of you that play this soon.

    Here are a few tips, I've used.

    Town Storage:
    The first town has:
    The house you start in.
    A store (pick up/drop items to buy/sell)
    A church to save in.
    The Mayors House.

    One other Buidling, directly across the street from the church.

    This building is, so far as I can tell, the only one that you
    can leave items in and then pick them up during a loaded game.


    Given that you can only hold 10 (or is it 12) Items, this is massively important.

    Potions:
    Every Dungeon has them, and each dungeon resets them.

    Blue might be IronMan in the 1st dungeon, then Sleep in the next.

    The only ways to tell are:
    Throw unknown ones at an enemy - Risky, give them Muteki and you
    are going to die.
    Use a "Reveal Potion" - Rare to find, sadly.
    Test them on yourself - Hope for the best.

    Try to come out of a dungeon with a few potions that you want,
    such as: x2 Next Potion and Ironman. I use the x2 when I have
    Increase Stamina, really helps out.

    You can store your Potions in said building above (I suggest
    making a simple map, or lining them up in rows where you know
    what each is) take them from there and compare them to the
    store to see if there are good potions to buy. It's a good idea
    to keep 1 of every kind of Postive Potion in the room for
    identification purposes.

    Gems:
    I don't use them at all. Why?

    You will hurt yourself in the long run.

    If you use a +15 Kick Gem, you'll kill the enemy faster and level
    up a lot slower. Level up without it, then use it at the end, and
    you will kill things much faster (helpful since the last dungeon
    is like 30 random levels).

    Depending on what character you use, make sure to make the gem of a kind that will benifit you. Punches for Chuji, Kicks for Chaco, etc.

    Store postive and negative gems in the house and the best negative
    one to create (Throw a gem with Points you want onto a gem on the
    floor that is of the kind you want to keep) is = Stamina.

    Get a -99 one of them, last dungeon toss that fucker around and
    you'll see an enemy go from 300 life to 3 instantly (though,
    I think they'll lose a bit of Power on each use so it will get progressively less powerful).

    Always kill everything in every dungeon, more levels = good.

    Mix potions if you like, kind of pointless unless you use a FAQ. Eventually you get a White potion if you do it long enough, or get the right combination. Novel, but not worth the time.

    Cook Rotton Meat:
    This one, pre-MVS-Internet, I actually found randomly and is a cool little thing in the game.
    Use Invisibility Potion, Hold Rotten Meat, run through Enemy's that are still fire balls. It will cook the meat and make it safe to eat.

    You can throw it as well, but most enemies won't eat it, so you'll only get blunt Damage.

    To Collect Monsters (Capture, if you like) Hit them down to under 5% life (can be trickey to judge) and then throw a Pink Gem at them.

    That's about it for now, more when I remember it.

  2. And the nerding begins:



    Few Potions and a Gem in the Warehouse. This is just before heading
    over to Dungeon 1 (after the Practice Dungeon). Didn't find any ID
    Potions, so I just equipped the unknown Gems and got fucked with
    curses 4/5 times.



    Entrance to Dungeon 1.



    Goddamn monkey beat my head in...



    Hate these birds. Can't Throw or Grab-Kick them, and they jump in with
    beak attacks. Bit of overkill using the projectile attack on it.



    Got De-Cursed and removed Gems. Left Foot attacks mostly, but the
    Guard is really low there. Have to bump that up a lot. White Potions are
    Decurse and Random Effect.



    Fucking hate bears. This bastard actually got me down to 1 HP, then
    I ran like a bitch and it went up to 2...



    And before I could Rest up and heal, another goddamn bear rolls in.



    Chuji Wu Bear and Dino Steaks abound in this one.

    Eating meat when your Rest Meter is full gives you more Defense,
    Guard on the chart, so, it's best to save them all and then
    eat as many as you can in one sitting.



    Dicking around and picking up things that I know what they are,
    I drop them at the start of each level to free up bag space.
    10 items in the bag isn't much.

    Of course another fucking bear sneaks up on me and before I can
    guard he does his Kuma Head Smack shit on me.

    I'm pretty sure he KMTFO on this one and made me see stars.



  3. 1st dungeon has a lot of beasts in it, making for piles of meat. I save them all then eat them to boost Defense up.



    Gaze Eye's are a pain in the ass. Any attack you do on them will damage them 1 HP for each hit. There's no way in hell I'm hitting this fucker 300 times. Throws do normal damage so at 70 or so per, it's 5 tosses and they die.



    These guys have the same thing, hits only hit them for 1HP, but a fall seems to damage them. So, using Chuji's B Mid Mid hits for 2 Damage, then a fall of like 12. They never get dizzy on a Grab Shin Kick or Mug Shot, so here I am just puching him in the head over and over for 0 damage but leveling up the punches.



    8th floor, first boss.



    Mark The Devil. He has some of Gren's moves and seems to use Cappoera mostly. He's not too dangerous, so a few good combos and he's done.



    Ate so much meat I put the Defense up to 15, which is excellent for the 1st Dungeon. Right Punches and Left Kicks are high, since I use those mostly.

    Red numbers are affects from Gems, but since I have 2 Add Life and 1 Add/1 Curse Minus Stamina, there is nothing shown. Gives me 32 extra HP, I think and evens out the Stamina until I can get a White Potion to remove the curse.

    2 Heal Full Potions in upper left corner.
    2 Unknown Potions - 1 Unknown Gem Obscured.
    Red Gem is +8 or so Fist (to be used at the very end when changed to Kick)
    Yellow is 0 Stamina.
    Blue is +10 Defense, soon to be equipped.
    Pink is +14 Capture, not capturing any monsters this run.
    Red is -32 Fist, which I will change to Life and use later on to kill monsters easily.

  4. Damn. That was pretty fuckin' detailed.

    I think I already have a save file with all 200+ characters unlocked, but I still want to go through Quest mode to see what it's all about.


    (PS. Tobal #2 is the game that got me into imports. The first one I actually owned was Toukon Retsuden 3 but I never would've even bothered with imports if it wasn't for Tobal #2)

  5. Got my CDR yesterday. Thanks, MVS. Have yet to hook up the PS and start playing, but I'll likely get into it tomorrow or maybe tonight if I have time. Question to anyone using the patched Tobal 2 on PS hardware: how's the saving? A corrupt memory card is the last thing I need right now.

  7. I'm close to just making a web page on it and completely nerding out.

    Dunno about the PS, I just use EPSXE. A burn won't play on my Japanese PS2 and the chipped PS's are in storage somewhere.

  9. Haven't gotten a chance to play mine yet. I get a few days off later this week though and I'm going to delve into it then.

  10. EPSXE? Oh good, I was about to ask about emulator compatibility. How beefy a PC does it take to run this at a decent speed, anyway? My chipped PS1 burned out years ago and I'm not up to speed on PS2 modding yet.
