Is that $299 figure something Sony stated or estimated, or something people pulled out their ass?
If it is actually $299 at launch, with the DS being an estimated $149, Sony's going to have a rough start.
I would seriously be afraid to carry something like that around in my pocket / jacket / backpack / etc. for fear that that huge screen would soon look like I ice skated all over it or something. They should really offer some sort of screen protection for it, considering how much I'm sure it is going to end up costing.
It's also a bit hard to judge exactly how big it is. It seems really big, like almost Lynx sized, and if so, I can't see it being nearly as popular as the GameBoy somewhere like Japan. It looks more like a personal game system than a portable game system - something you have if you don't have a TV, or have to always share a TV, or something.

It looks a lot like the Game Gear...
It's not as big as you think, check out this picture:

the shot where it's only one hand holding it, it looks pretty big. but when he's got both hands holding it, it looks so small. i'm stil lvery interested (and still most likely going to be a whore and buy it).
i spent about $300 on their 10th anniversary cd walkman (still works, and the loading mech is f'n badass), i guess i can spend $300 on their first portable. i really ain't got the money, but it sure looks pretty spiffy enough to sell a kidney to buy it and some games.
