Thread: Metal Gear Acid

  1. Snake vs. Monkey is an awesome sub-game, to boot.

Someone should set up a score attack thread for that.

This is what I meant to say, but phrased better. Really, the stories are shallow entertainment at best. At worst, they're overly silly and borderline embarassing (lighthearted moments are fine, but don't destroy the pacing with them just for the sake of breaking the fourth wall yet again).

It's not bad, per se... it's about on par with a cheesy action flick with a hero who spouts one-liners and winks at the camera. It can be fun, but I sure as hell don't see this supposed depth that so many fans of the series claim to love.

  3. I can understand the complaints, Mzo. But I'll never understand DiffX completely writing off a brilliant game, and then acting like there's something wrong with the *rest* of the world for not doing the same. Generally, in that position, I just say, 'It's not for me.'
I wrote off MGS3 because I wasnt having any fun with it, not because of the stupidity of the story or whatever. As for MGS2 and MGS... yea, those games were both alright fun to play, but damn the stories were shitty, and there was so much stupid shit in the games that they just made me wretch. Especially after hearing how great of a storyteller and how influenced by cinema and shit Kojima is.

That's because most people only see the Special Mode's ending, thinking it's the ending to the main game, when it reality the Special Mode is nothing more a simulated version of the main Ghost Babel storyline. No.4 even makes reference to that ("you have surpassed Snake's skills in Galuade" or something like that). Again, where Ghost Babel is a VR Mission in the main canon is arguable, but in the context of the actual game, that's not the case.

Hm. Anyway, explain to me how the events "clearly" happened, because I always wrote it off as either a VR mission or a sidestory that never happened in the main plotline. I don't think you can say with certainty that it's anything other than that.
It isn't so much as to whether or not Ghost Babel happened in the series' canon (it clearly isn't, as it is merely an alternative sequel to the original Metal Gear), but rather the fact whether Raiden actually went through Galuade in VR Missions or not. That's clearly not the case since the storyline game has several references to the first Metal Gear game (considering it takes place in Galuade, the former Outer Heaven), yet Raiden is clearly clueless about what Outer Heaven means when he talks to Pliskin.

Right. It's only the VR missions ending that makes mention of "Jack" and since Raiden's VR training couldn't have been a recreation of Ghost Babel as Ghost Babel didn't happen in the canon, and the game in and of itself isn't a VR mission, we've already established that...

There is no point! The game's non-canon, so what the VR missions say doesn't even matter. I don't even know why they stuck that line in there. Probably for the sole purpose of wasting people's time by letting them wonder about it.

Well it was simply just a teaser for MGS2 (in the same way that getting 100% in MGS: VR Missions will display a picture of Ray) for most part, but I also guess that they had plans to do a Ghost Babel 2 (considering the main game has quite a few loose ends and Weasel was too cool to never be used again) with Raiden. Too bad, I would've preferred that over Acid.

But yeah, for MGS3. I'm wholeheartedly endorsing the story. You need to play this game, and finish it, like, yesterday. It's hands down the *best* PS2 game. It's like a big fat, "I'M SORRY :-* LOVE MEE!!!!!!!" from Kojima.
The ending gave me chills ...but then they went away when the phone conversation came on after the credits. It was still cool though.

And I dunno, I'm not bothered by some of the little whacky touches thrown into the games. I do dislike the kind of thing where you have to plug your controller into slot 2 so Pyscho Mantis can't read your mind, just because it takes me out of the game and in a pretty lame way too. I guess some of that was actually appropriate in MGS2 though...in a way.

  8. So.... I may have missed this from earlier in the thread or whatever, but what is the reason for the Metal Gear ACID name. I figured it was just a placeholder until a real name came out. Please tell me there is no ACID Snake running around in game....or was this game just named after the chemical a person would be likely to pour in their eyes after witnessing the horrid story and "gameplay"?

  9. Actually I heard in some interveiw that Kojima named it Acid becuase it supposedly burned(changed) the old MGS style of gameplay. However am going off memory.

Yep, it's the final title. It's pretty much a reference to the kind of drugs the developers were using when they made the game.
