You're probably right. I havent played MG:GB, yet but I thought the plot was a bit different than that. But I remember Johnny and a couple of you mentioning that it was in an alternate universe or something. Both lame ideas, but what can they do? Maybe Kojima forced them to use plots like this to keep from soiling his main series?

Not even close. It's an actual person who believes he's Solid Snake, but is in reality some guy named Hans Davis, who co-developed the data for the new Metal Gear model.

I don't get why people tend to misinterpret the special mode's ending in Ghost Babel and erroneously dismiss the game as one of Raiden's VR Missions. The events of Gindra clearly happened in the context of it's own storyline (even if the game itself is non-canon, having Ghost Babel serve as one Raiden's VR mission in the series' canon is still a flawed theory by itself).

See, it's shit like this that makes me wonder why people love the Metal Gear stories so much. By and large they're pretty much crap. Of course, this sounds even worse than the whole Raiden situation, which I didn't think was possible.

Did you play MGS3? The plots of the first game and MGS3 offset the crazy crap the second game had. Good shit all throughout the third. Anyway, uh, the plot sounds stupid as all hell but I still want to play this games. Worries me about what'll happen to the series without Kojima though, hah.

Anyway, how is interpreting Ghost Babel as a VR mission wrong? You don't get it? They say "Good job, Jack" or something to that effect... you can't understand why people interpreted that as Raiden? Hm. Anyway, explain to me how the events "clearly" happened, because I always wrote it off as either a VR mission or a sidestory that never happened in the main plotline. I don't think you can say with certainty that it's anything other than that.

The Metal Gear series has made me cringe more than any series in gaming. I dont know why people take Kojima seriously, not when the games have so many damn "i live on through this arm", "let me tell you about movies everytime you save", "I want to talk about our past, failed relationship while you are in the middle of battle", "you can call me otakon - it is short for otaku convention" type bullshit. Its seriously horrible stuff.

Perhaps this is all true, if you don't enjoy, you know... enjoyment.

It wasn't flawless, but nothing hampered my enjoyment of the first MGS. Nothing that happened in it threw me out of the game and took away from the experience. Any problems that it may have had seem negligible compared to MGS2. And despite all that, the game still played excellently, so I can't be all that torn up about it.

No, I don't get Kojima worship worship. The man's made some good games and some great games, but so have a lot of other people who haven't achieved his level of name recognition, and most of those people have not resurrected anyone through evil dismembered limbs.

I don't hate MGS1 (I hate MGS2) but I always thought the story started off fantastic and stayed strong, but had a lot of hokey, dumb crap. "Press the Action Button, Snake," "Hold the controller up to your arm," and "look at the back of the case."

Those were all dumb, 4th wall breaking things that took me right out of the story and made me shake my head. If you're gonna make something funny and wacky, do it. If you want to tell a serious, immersive story, do that, but leave all the weird and stupid shit out.

In the first game, that didn't bother me too much... I don't know why that is that it didn't get to me there, but in the Twin Snakes, it really irritated me. Like when Psycho Mantis tells you to put the controller on the ground and then Snake motions to you to do it? It's far more blatant and annoying with that little addition, heh.
