Thread: Tony Hawk's Underground 2

  1. I got a supr preview of it earlier today.

In fact, my roommate is playing it right now. I like the new stat system, and that kid on the weelchair is funny as hell.

  2. Yeah, I just got finished playing it for a bit.

The rage system is interesting. After you bail, if you mash Y enough (there's a meter with different notches), you get pissed and smash your board in some way. Thing is, it counts as a trick for a small period of time, and it's usually over 1,000 points.

Everything's more colorful, bright, and cartoony. It doesn't look all that bad.

There are a shitload of goals in this one, and that's not including the classic mode.

Focus mode drains the special meter, and it's actually helpful and cool-looking at the same time.

Decals I don't see the point of. You smack a sticker on a wall when you wallpress. Same with grinding; I don't see any point to it, but I'm sure it's important in some goals later on. Projectile throwing is kinda cool, and it's easy to do mid-combo.

The BS Darkslide glitch has been fixed.

Oh, and it's awesome to start off in THPS 1 Warehouse.

Not bad at all. The career mode in this seems significantly better than THUG's, so far, and I can't really pinpoint why. There seems to be more to do, and it's more seamless, I guess.

  3. So far I'm really liking it, I mean, bringing back Classic mode while in addition to the Story is the ONLY thing I asked for, and I was really surprised the dev's actually thought of it.

    Definately better than THUG, already.

Shit. I just realized if I got it at Target or Circuit City, I'd get a 10 dollar gift card. Time to rebuy it, and return my copy I impulsely bought at Gamestop =/

So I won't be playing this anytime soon. Which is driving nuts having to see ads for it all the time on tv, and that behind the scenes special on mtv.

From what I've read the hardcore thps players are pretty satisfied with this game, way more than with THUG. Almost everything that was lame about thug was fixed. The sticker plant is not going over well with most people since you can't hit it well from and angle and you don't get as much air from it, its a big step backward from the wall plant. Another minor thing I've heard that not many people will notice is that you can no longer spin out your manual tricks and transition into grinds or wallies. That may not effect most people but those sort of moves were extremely stylish. And it turns out that the button layout on the gamecube version is so fucked up that it hinders gameplay.

I got out of this series after 2, since 3 was basically... the exact same game... oh yeah, and so was 4.
    lol

  5. If there's one thing I'd love to see in this series, it's a nice level editor. The rail placement tool was a huuuge step up, but I fully believe that they could abandon the grid-based system entirely, and add a simple terrain editor for good measure.

    lol
    Seriously.

And I'm considering making a high-score thread for this, if anybody wants to take part in one.

  6. Upon digging farther into the game, story mode is still kind of assy. The secret characters are retarded, every single one of them.

This is a game about SKATEBOARDING, not driving go karts and stupid mechanical bulls.

Plus Sydney was one of the most boring levels in the whole series, I think. If it wasn't for getting secret characters, I would be sticking solely to classic mode.

  7. And yea, the secret characters definately hit their peak at 3, and it's a waste of space to even include them in the games anymore. THUG 2 only has one really cool, too bad he has NO special moves whatsoever.

I miss the days of Darth Maul and his awesome specials =/

  8. I think Spider-man was the only cool secret character the series ever had, just seeing the ones in THUG 2 made me not want to get the game. Still get it somewhere down the line, if just for classic mode, but too many games right now to bother.

Wolverine and Darth Maul were pretty badass, though.

THUG had Iron Man, I think, and Gene Simmons, but I didn't get that far.

Still, it's ALOT better than the secrets in THUG 2, it's like they didn't even bother this time. Half the fun was busting your ass to get all the gaps or get 100% just to get that awesome hidden skater.

Now I've got Steve-O riding a mechanical bull. WOW.

  10. Why the fuck did they make Bam the center of this game? He's a douchebag. I think Neversoft is just out of ideas, and after 6 games in 6 years, I cant fault them.
