Thread: Doesn't anyone have any love for Custom Robo?

  1. Doesn't anyone have any love for Custom Robo?

Is anyone else playing Custom Robo out there? I picked it up a few days ago, it took me a short while to get a feel for it but now I love it. It's like the bastard child of Virtual On, Pokemon and Super Smash Brothers. I was also pleasantly suprised to see it release at only $39.99. Usually every new release gets some sort of mention on the board, I know I've been away for a while but come on it's a US version of Custom Robo! Remember how bad we wanted this since the first import N64 version??

  2. Since when did people here actually play games?

  3. yeah, i got it and have been playing the fuck out of it. beat the main story, and just beat the police station in the grand battle. But news wise, this was e3 week, and this e3 had some major news, so people are talking about that right now. its a hard game to pin down, its easy, the rpg parts drag on, and the paceing feels a little uneven, but if you are an unlockable nut like me, this game is crack-cocaine, and i doubt im going to even touch another console gamt till i have all the parts unlocked. the designs are really good, the script is actually funny, unlike most times games that try to be funny and fail. and the fighting actually has some depth, overall its a love it or hate it situation, either it draws you in, or you despise its flaws and never want to play it.

  4. I played a bit of it at EB the other day. If I didn't have FarCry and La Pucelle to work on, I might consider CR. The story mode annoyed me, since I wanted to blow up stuff and had to go through Pokemon-level text stupidity. I kept expecting Professor Oak to show up. When I finally got it into VS mode (wouldn't go into Arcade for some reason, perhaps you have to unlock it), it was pretty cool. I might get it at some point.

  5. lhadatt, yes, about half the game features are locked till you beat the story mode. kind of stupid, but i got throught the story pretty quickly(2 days of less than dilligent play).

  6. Well, with no commercials of it's own, the fact it's getting overshadowed by other games released before and after it, and the fact it's getting overshadowed by E3, isn't going to rocket it up to the top.

If the levels didn't look like dog shit, and as Lhadatt said, I didn't have to wade through some retarded story, I'd consider picking it up.

Right now, it's a sub 20 dollar purchase.

  7. The unlocking requirements really aren't that bad. By the time you've grown comfortable with the controls in story mode you've already unlocked most of the modes. Also, the story text actually isn't half bad (and I'm someone that absolutely HATES story text in games). At times it's actually well written and funny. The game has a similar feel to Mega Man Network Transmission, in a good way. If you have people to play with though I can't see passing this up, it's the most fun multiplayer game I've played in a LONG time. And you don't need four Game Boy's to play it!

  8. I've yet to see it in stores, and it's a title that I've been looking forward to for quite some time. More of a $20-$30 title for me though given all that's coming out in the coming months.

And it's better than that garbage Gotcha Force.

  10. I think Custom Robo is a little too generic a name for this game, I'm going to call it something more apt, like PokeVOOT Melee. Please don't compare Gotcha Force to PokeVOOT Melee.
