So far there have been two official patches dealing specifically with the game's bugs, balance issues, etc. so those install issues that you had during the game's initial release should have been fixed by now.

Edit: You may want to start with the 1.03 patch and then install the 1.12 patch.

  2. Some awesome news on the latest patch:
    http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=14052

    Hi all,

We are currently working on the next Battlefield 2 update. We believe this update has some significant improvements that everyone will appreciate. We’ve seen the discussions on the forum and will do our best to address as many issues as possible, as soon as possible.

Here is a quick run down of just some of the issues we have been working on.

    - Helicopter now carry 8 missiles rather than 14
    - TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range
    - Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced
    - AA missile lock has been improved
    - Support kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
    - Sniper kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
    - Anti-Tank kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
    - "Dolphin Diving" is no longer possible
    - Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time
    - "Prone Spamming" is now fixed
    - "Sprint exploit" is now fixed
    - The Sa80 weapon has been improved
    - The G3A3 weapon has been improved
    - Reload while sprinting has been enabled
    - Chinese and MEC APCs can now shoot through penetrable materials
    - Damage decreased for the M134
    - Medic defibrillator paddles have been adjusted. They now reload while not in use.
    - Enhanced stability 64 servers
    - Better performance in big fights / lots of effects (gas, flash)
    - Name glitch will be fixed (about fucking time)
    - Linux servers won't crash anymore when the account servers drop out

We'll be announcing further additions to this list, but that will have to wait until the next update. This is NOT the complete list of items we are working on. As we have more items go through testing and we are sure of a change we will update you.

    For now, cheers.

Supposedly, this patch is about two months away from being finished. The elimination of dolphin diving/bunnyhopping and the proposed tweaks to air vehicles and air defense systems make me extremely happy. Once the pilot community started to become proficient with launching bombs and missiles from the air BF2 became significantly less fun for landlubbers like myself. Hell, the main reason that I'm enjoying Special Forces so much is because there's essentially zero air-spam. The proposed tightening up of infantry combat should only make the BF2 experience even more fun in the future.

  3. Awesome news! Nice to see annoying things fixed, esp. "dolphin diving". Thats just annoying. Reloading while sprinting will be nice since I play Anti-tank alot. I always hated trying to balance between running away from a tank and still reloading for the next shot. I agree with the name color bug. I have no idea why that took EA so long to address. What was the sprint exploit, anyway.

All in all, sounds cool! Still like regular BF2 better(better maps) I still will play this. You gotta start jumping into squads with Destro and I sometime, Wee! We're always on during the weekend.

  4. Yeah, I just started playing BF2 pretty regularly again over the past week or so. Lately though I've spent all my time on a Special Forces sever called East Coast Massacre; as I mentioned earlier, the extermination of air-spam, decreased travel-time from point to point—the action is almost non-stop—and nifty new ways of approaching hot-spots (thanks to the grapple hook and zip line) make the SF maps infinitely more fun to play (at least for me).

I normally squad-hop whenever I do play BF2, so if you guys want to keep communication going during gameplay go ahead and join the BF2 channel on this Ventrilo server: vent.bsdterritory.com (port: 3795)

If I’m playing BF2, then Ventrilo is probably running, and since I’ve been having some trouble with Xfire lately, connecting to our Ventrilo server is really the best way of hooking up with me for a game. I’ll be on tonight starting around 11:00 PM EST.

Protip: If you hit the reload button before pressing the sprint key, you will be able to sprint while the reload animation occurs.

Some highlights from a new interview with DICE on TotalBF2.com:

TotalBF2.com: What about new content? Can we expect some new maps or weapons to make the list in this patch, or possibly even a future patch?

Armando: Other than the addition of two new unlock weapons (for the sniper and AT), there will not be more content in the patch. There is a plan for additional content as we move forward, but patches will not be the means of delivering this new content.
TotalBF2.com: Is there any news on the Final build of the editor? A possible ETA on the release?

Armando: The eta on the next build of the editor looks to be the same as the patch date. As we continue to create content, we continue to work with the editor and find areas where it can be improved.

TotalBF2.com: Will there be any possible performance issues resolved, such as lag or performance enhancements like faster load times?

Armando: We are addressing performance issues. Whether they will be completely resolved or not is a different matter. We have found gains in the game that have yielded an improvement in frame rate. We are looking into improving lag, but I have no news on that matter as of yet. As far as load times go, if we find something that will help, we will surely include it.
I bet that the anti-tank unlock will be the RPG, but I have no clue what the new sniper rifle will be like.

Given EA's hurried and careless--at least, in regards to product quality--game-release policies, I'm glad that DICE is still pumping out fresh content and fixing important issues via community input.

  6. I'd hope for the sake of the game that the AT unlock would be an AA missile.

That would make my day. If they'd do this, I'd like for it to work like the AA missile in Desert Combat.

  8. I highly doubt they would make an AA an unlockable weapon - but that would be damn cool. It would force everyone to unlock that gun. An AA class would be neat. I read recently that DICE is going to be bringing out $10 new map and weapon packs this spring. Supossedly 2 of them. I think its an awesome idea.

I still play this game all the time - nothing else online is close. Use xfire and join up.
NowPlaying: Battlefield series . DarkSouls . MGS collection . Cap+SNK fighters . AceCombat series . ArmoredCore series

  9. I don't know if they would make AA a weapon unlock, but I can see it being added to the Anti Tank class. Thats what was done with Desert Combat. They made it so Anti-Air missles did nothing against ground-based units. It worked well, because up until then, DC was dominated by the air.

Map and weapon packs sound very very cool. It'd be nice if they were free downloads but then again, we're talkin EA here.

Apparently, the 1.2 Patch is being tested as we speak, so the release day should finally be coming sometime soon.
