Thread: Official: Battlefield 2

  1. Euro Forces it out (a day early). Played only for a little before work. Great Wall is a new map classic. One map was a throwback to the old BF1942 all tank maps. There was like 6 tanks all on my team rolling down the road. And one map was straight out of the moive Jarhead - one point is covered in black smoke from a destoryed oil line. So 2 maps are heavily vehicle oriented, while the other (great wall) is a balance of vehicle and ground combat, with a million places to hide. Looks like its going to be good fun.

EDIT: Oh and not a single red name bug occured.

  2. I've only played Great Wall and Operation Smoke Screen, but I am impressed with the quality of both of them. Smoke Screen is a GREAT map harkening back to the days of Desert Combat. Wide open and lots of vehicles. The smoke effect on the map is nice as well. I'm glad theres no grappling hooks or anything else from Special Forces, either. These maps feel balanced. I'll take 3 more please!

Seeing as how my game runs squeaky clean now, I'm thinking about downloading this today. I'll post later if I do, and maybe we can hook up.

  4. The allure of new BF 2 content is enticing, but from what I've read it seems like the new maps are almost entirely armor-dominated (this of course is a direct contradiction of what DICE was initially promising us—the Euroforce maps were supposed to be focused on infantry combat whereas Armored Fury’s maps were supposed to be vehicle-based), and as an ardent land-lubber I'm rather hesitant to spend my $10 on three maps that might frustrate me with their vehicular bias.

So its only 3 maps? We are being forced to pay for 3 maps? Special Forces didn't even feel like much of an upgrade for the $30. I think I'm gonna pass on this. I'm having plenty of fun with BF2 and SF as is, and seems the game still runs like crap on certain maps.

  6. it's $10 and you don't have to buy it if you don't want the three maps.

i haven't been around my computer much... but i still might pick this up tonight.
look here, upon a sig graveyard.

  7. If you like the vehicle-based maps(Kubra Dam, Zatar Watlands, etc) You'll really like the new maps. They are a throwback to 1942 and Desert Combat especially. I think that its a great change of pace since Special Forces was primarily ground-pounding. I like both styles of play, actually. I just wish that more weapons from Euro Forces would be made able to unlock than there are. I really like the Medic's and the Support's guns.

I don't like the idea of paying for content whenever bonus material in the past has been free from other companies(Thank you, Epic) but this is EA and it is inevitable. I don't think another game would get my money with such ease, but this is no ordinary game. Go get it ASAP!!

  8. The new maps are definately a throwback to the '42 tank maps. Hardcore tank battles to the maximum. Its awesome how the whole game can totally change shifting focus to vehicles. Special Forces was the infantry focus, so its neat to get some vehicle madness.

So with that said, a very high level of teamwork is required. Effective Anti-Air is an absolute must now to avoid the jet whores. Engineers rule the battlefields now. Repairing is what separates winning from losing these maps. Setting up mine fields to force the enemy armor to your tank battlion is another great strategy. Now being that some serious teamwork is needed, alot of rounds end up being crap because the average joe just dont give a shit and want to kill stuff. So ive seen alot of blowout games. On the flip side, if both teams are working together you can have some badass stuff going down. Ive seen some of the best BF2 games around when this happens. Absolute stalemates untill the very last tickets. 1-0 was the final score the other day.

Its great testing the waters on a new BF2 map. Everyone is just feeling out how to play it and whats going to work. Then you start to think of strategies even when you're not playing the game. heh. There's so much depth and so many different ways to approach each map, unlike the old Counter-Strike: run to choke point and camp stuff. I have a friend who was complaining about how shitty Euro Forces is because he was getting his ass rocked, but thats because he doesnt understand how to play the maps yet. There's 14 tanks on the map at times! You have the change your way of thinking and playstyle. That's why this game is king of the hill right now, and thats why its just about all i play.

Oh yea, Euro Forces is good. Buy it.

  9. So I finally broke down like the good little Battlefield 2 whore that I am and sent EA more of my money.

I'll try and hook up with you guys through Xfire for some matches throughout the day and later this weekend.

Come on into our community Ventrilo server if you want to communicate and coordinate more effectively:

    IP -- 64.27.0.100:3795

  10. Well after spending 2+ rounds on each of the new maps I am already pleased with my purchase. The map designs are superb, as even though there's more armor than usual, the terrain is designed well enough so that anti-tanks, spec ops, and especially engineers can neutralize all the armor (and rack up the kills) if they use the terrain for cover and plant C4/mines in the appropriate places.

Regarding weaponry, the new shotgun for the EU engineer (it's some model of the Benelli) absolutely owns. It’s got one less shell than most of the auto/semi-auto shotties, and it’s also the slowest of the semi-auto shotties, but the high damage level makes it absolutely lethal if you’re a good enough shot. I was owning groups of three/four people with one clip (with the standard pump shotty it’s hard to take out more than two people in large group). In fact, I love the Benelli much that I haven't even tried out any other Euro-class yet besides anti-tank, and I was so busy using the AT rockets that I hardly fired any shots with the “new” P-90 SMG.

    Overall: GG DICE.

But don’t buy this if you want more city maps/urban combat; the Euro Force map style caters more to fans of Oilfields/Dalian Plant/Dragon Valley/Songhua Stalemate/Gulf of Oman.

I found an awesome 64-man server that’s running the Euro Force maps non-stop:

War is Hell Euro Force Only
    IP -- 70.86.207.155:16567

Definitely check it out if you’re looking for a good Euro Force server.

Well, I encountered at least one name glitch per map-load (the most I had in one map was three).

I'm still not used to distinguishing between the new EU uniforms and the MEC/Chinese uniforms, so it's an especially frustrating issue when you're not sure if you should shoot a guy or not. Usually though, I can look at an enemy's uniform and tell whether or not he’s actually an enemy. This is not to say that the continued existence of the name of glitch is in any way excusable, but there are ways to adjust to it.

I disagree, especially in regards to Great Wall and “the big ass bridge map.” Granted, it makes real-world sense that the Great Wall is unscalable, but it certainly would make on-foot travel a lot easier for the defenders and it would also give the attacking team another way to break into the enclosed flag areas if the grapple-hook and zip-line were enabled. “The big ass bridge map” also has ample opportunities for deploying grapple-hooks/zip-line (especially on the map’s lowest point, elevation wise), and it would make on-foot travel from flag to flag a lot more enticing than it currently is.

This is really my only complaint right now (besides the technical limitations of the whole EA downloader service). I badly want to use my beloved Benelli in the regular BF 2 maps.
