Thread: Official: Battlefield 2

  1. Hence the reason they are adding commander approved air dropped humvees and buggies to speed up gameplay along with the squad hop fix. We get number one squad for a reason - because we ARE constantly in the middle of the action. You just have to have a squad leader who knows what they're doing.

This is all fine for the minority of players that do squad-up with fellow clan/community members and actually know how to work together efficiently, but for normal player like me, such a scenario simply isn't an option because the majority of players on pubs are not at all concerned with working together as a true team.

Even now, commanders are often too concerned with tickling their own fancies to fulfill a simple supply request, so I doubt the addition of a "vehicle request" feature will do much to awaken a “team-first” attitude in most commanders.

Adding in features that might be successful on a sterile, in-dev-house server but are absurdly idealistic when implemented into the BF 2 playing public is simply not enough to keep me appeased with DICE's patch-work. The fact that they continue to ignore the game's jarring technical issues while throwing out these barely wortwhile "additions" and "gameplay tweaks" is even more unnerving.

Its about joining a squad and functioning as a team. If you have a good squad leader, you are usually in the thick of things. Part of being a good squad leader is sometimes being a spawn point as opposed to just rushing a flag, running and gunning.

The new patch should relieve your complaint, though. Air-dropped jeeps will keep most people in the loop as long as your team is functioning as it should with good squad leaders and good commanders.

Squad-jumping isn't really an exploit, its just people that are concentrating more on their kill count and their over-all score instead of being on the winning team. For those people, I think there are other FPS's out there that are more about that. BF2 is supposed to be about team work.

Oh, and it is fun to be #1 squad. That gives recognition to a job well done. I would like to see a star for that as well.

I agree with the game having technical issues. It is waaaay too reliant on ram. It definitly needs worked on.

Yea I see what you're saying there. I was mainly talking about how entire squads shuffle in and out to change squad leaders instantly. As a solo soldier jumping around I dont really have a problem with it. Got to get those gold medals somehow.

  5. Some info from the latest community update

    3 NEW MAPS
Operation Midnight Sun: The conflict spreads near the Pacific Ocean in a key battle for the Alaskan port of Valdez, where Chinese forces are attempting to secure much-needed fuel from the pipeline.

Operation Harvest: The MEC army begins their march East towards the U.S. Capital, and American forces must stall the advance long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

Operation Road Rage: The MEC forces have infiltrated deep into the USA, and are using the highways to move quickly towards key industrial sites that are dangerously near civilian areas.
To balance the wide-open tank battles with aerial firepower, six new vehicles will be introduced, including 3 scout helos such as the MD 530 ?Little Bird?, and 3 ground attack aircraft like the A10 Warthog.

In addition, patch 1.3 is on the way, and with it comes single player co-op support, so you can grab a friend and tackle the bots as a team. More details to follow, so stay frosty!
It looks like we might see the new patch and Armored Fury released sometime by the end of this week.

Also, for any fence-sitting late adopters, the core BF 2 game is on sale for $20 this week at Staples.

  6. Widescreen support?

Yeah, cause the single player has so damn much to offer in this game.

Not yet (if ever, at this point).

Out of curiosity, do most high-profile PC releases ship with widescreen support?

Yes. For a long time. Even crap like City Life does.

In all honesty the only game I've had a problem with since I got my monitor is BF2.

I am convinced DICE and EA are not supporting it just to spite people. Because there's no good reason why a high-end "for gamers" title like BF2 will lack it.

Much like you, I have come to the realization that as much as I do enjoy BF@, there are just way too many problems with the game, and widescreen support is only a minor one. The only question I have is, is most of this Dice's decisions ore is it more of EA's influence?
