Thread: Best E3 ever?

  1. Best E3 ever?

Well, almost everyone had something interesting for us to see and look forward to. Something tells me I am going to be REALLY broke in the next two years.

This E3 was a huge disappointment for me because of one reason: Sega.

Nintendo had an awesome showing although I hoped they would come up with a new franchise instead of having everything be a sequel or use existing characters.

The reason I'm not a jaded prick is that I'm still looking forward to a ton of stuff, especially Half-Life 2 and Jade Empire. It's just that I hope for surprises at E3 and other than some Nintendo stuff like the DS, there weren't any exciting new appearances.

  3. This was my first E3. To say the least, it was a little lackluster.

Sure, i saw alot of cool shit, but it wasnt what i expected. Just a bunch of dumbasses running around grabbing free shit and hogging the demo machines. I thought E3 was something more... i dont know, special.

    :/

Shock value wise, I think this E3 has been the best in a while, but I don't think I'd call it the best ever though...
Taking it one day at a time.

  5. None of the games I really wanted to see were playable (outside of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories). The show itself wasn't all that great this year, but after the show with some of my friends from all over the US was great.

All the games I really want to play were shown at E3 2003 and just made reappearances this year.. so yeah, I'd say this year was pretty lackluster.

    edit--I'm jaded, but not a prick. I don't think.

    I believe this news.

However. B/c it was my first E3, we did it on the cheap and didn't have stuff planned for the evenings. Next time around I'm getting a SuperPass so I can sit in on presentations/panels and hear what the movers/shakers in the industry think. There were TONS of playable stuff. But for a retail guy like me (hey, I'm a retail guy like me) who gets to play all this stuff for free anyways, I wasn't that interested in 5-10 minutes w/games I'll buy anyway. I was much more interested in hearing what developers had to say about their game, especially when they talked about why/how their game was going to be different (see: pretty much everything playable in the Xbox booth).

So, next year it's Dodger games, bars, presentations and a much better hotel in a much more happenin' part of town. Hopefully w/more ppl and I'll make sure I bring my Xbox.

  8. I had a great time...lots of games that I am looking forward to, not to mention the forthcoming Nintendo DS (Sony PSP will have to wait, especially with that hefty price tag I've heard about). Honestly, everyone came pretty strong this year (well, except N-Gage...I don't know too many people really looking to invest in the QD). And like Meach, I cover the retail end as well - so it's great to be able to come back and share that with my customers.

Plus, for obvious reasons, I met a bunch of new people, attended some kickass parties, and was unquestionably one of my best E3's to date.

Rhydant: Years ago, that's all you were focused on were you not? free stuff? Anyways, next year, you better say hi.

  9. The highlight for me this year was getting Shigeru Miyamoto's autograph. Yup.

I stood in the Nintendo booth just outside their employee/media only area for about four hours hoping that he would walk by and I could get his autograph.

    I got it.

That alone made my trip all the more worth it. Happy happy, joy joy.

Totally. Not to give away the fact that I'm a total corporate tool but I really can make use of 10 min w/a developer. Not to mention my interest in this hobby has changed over the years from a "Gotta play 'em all" to a "Gotta learn/talk about 'em all."

Seriously. I spend an inordinate amount of my free time discussing games w/my friends rather than playing them. As cool as it was to see MechAssault 2 in action, it was so much cooler seeing how Half-Life 2, like its predecessor, will assist gaming in its continuing march towards an art form.
