For those who already have the game, how big would you say the environment is that you can wander around in, in comparison to GTA3?
Beyond the better framerate, textures, and load times, the games play identically.Originally Posted by Survival Kid
There's a different secret character for each platform; depends on which flavor you like your Harrison Ford.

Compared to GTA 3, it's quite big. As for San Andreas, well that might be bigger than this. Not sure yet. But alot of the land in Mercenaries is currently a no mans land, and the second you enter it trigger happy bomber pilots drop an airstrike on you, and much more of the land is inaccesable except by helicopter, and of course its a warzone so there are enemy SAM sites all over, and thus far I haven't really managed to fly for very long without getting shot down.
Yeah, Error's on point here. Though I should point out that there's a second map for the second half of the game, so it's bigger than GTA3 with a load time (longer than going between the islands).Originally Posted by BrAnDX105
You know, split screen isn't as simple as it looks. Consider the fact that you are now rending twice as much stuff on one screen; so either the draw distance gets pulled in more, there are fewer effects, or the frame rate gets cut in half.Originally Posted by Despair

I can't believe I had the demo of this sitting around, and thought nothing of it. I assume Fry's will have this on sale for the weekend. Mine.

This game rules, I can't believe I was on the fence about getting it. Now, more blowing shit up.

I'm almost at the second ace, and the game is really starting to pick up again, after a bit of a lull for me. I really ticked off the South Koreans, to the point of them shooting at me on site, but happily you can bribe em. Cost a pretty penny though...100 large.
edit: man, some of these factions take it REALLY personally when you shoot down their helicopters...sheesh.

Does anyone else think the music completely sucks? I had to shut it off just to keep playing. Would it have killed them to include custom soundtracks for the xbox version? Otherwise, great game. Like it more than San Andreas in a number of ways, but not really sure if it's a better game. GTA:SA has terrible on foot controls, but it does have hookers you can kill with giant dildos.

I feel like the cops in GTA add some sort of urgency to whatever you are trying to do, and in Mercenaries the rivaling factions will shoot at you, but they don't try and hunt you down like the cops in GTA.
