Thread: Nintendo is DOOMED! DOOMED! DOOOMED! :p

  1. I believe that Nintendo has painted themselves into a corner, when it come to putting mature rated games on thier console.

Look at the 30 something crowd. They grew up with Nintendo and are looking to get a console for their little ones. Do they buy a PS2 or Xbox for them? Looking at the content of those consoles, the first thing that comes to mind is Grand Theft Auto 3 and Halo. Do they really want to buy games of this nature for thier kids and just having a console that can provide this, is asking for this kind of game to enter there home, un-knowingly. They see the Gamecube and familiar characters like Mario and Zelda. Those games were'nt violent back in thier day, so a Gamecube sounds like a great idea. So, along comes a game like Eternal Darkness. They did'nt buy the console to bring this sort of game into their homes, so they go with the very reliable Mario game sitting on the store shelf.

Sure there are older gamers, who bought the system for themselves, but they are a small demographic in the sales of the Gamecube system. The biggest sellers on the console, have been the family friendly Nintendo titles. Even a hit franchise like Resident Evil, has had a very niche audience on the console.

Would it really be a good idea, for Nintendo to go the Sony route and try to bring more mature content to thier next console? I don't think it would be in their best interest to do so. Most gamers would just go ahead and buy the next Playstation, because they already know thier track record, when it comes to that type of game.

I could only imagine the reaction of a potential customer of the next Gamecube seeing game x, with heads blowing up and guns blazing. This is'nt the Nintendo I grew up with.

Nintendo's best shot at making the next Gamecube a success, would be to rely on titles that are different, but offer that Nintendo style of gaming. They really are stuck in a catch 22 situation. One I feel, they would have a hard time getting out of.

I couldn't finish them either. SMS was due to me just not jiving with the game, and Wind Waker, though I love it to death and is definitely one of the great Zelda games, just plain pissed me off. I was all ready to face eight more temples and eight more bosses to collect the eight pieces of the Triforce, and I ended up searching for charts, PAYING FOR THEM TO BE TRANSLATED (which was the worst part), and finally going fishing for them.

I have since re-purchased the game and vowed to finish it, but I know as soon as the Triforce fishing hits, it'll be just as hard as the first time.

Heh, soon as I read this I couldn't help thinking 'You know, Capcom Fighting Jam might not be so bad after all.'

As for the Smash Bros hate... for a fighting game fan playing it is like riding a bike with the training wheels still on after you've got perfect balance. After you know how to play with some level of depth, Smashy is just an empty experience.

So I don't hate it and think it's terrible for what it is, but it still bores the hell out of me. If that's the kind of thing you dig, just keep on truckin'.

Single player is simply not the best judge of depth when it comes to Smash Bros. I mean my brother can kick the crap out of me(reasonably good, but can't get cancels and meteor strike when I want them to) and two other friends easy. I stopped playing it because I simply cant beat him. Isn't that the true test of depth? ie. being able to beat someone consistently?

Now MvC2 on the other hand...

Smash Bros is a deep fighter. There's a lot to know and learn and apply in that game. In fact, most fighters don't have as much as depth as Smash.

VF? I'd settle for Art of Fighting. At least half the game's appeal is the characters and presentation. If you don't care for that then you're left with a game that isn't just shallow, it's practically flat.

The sailing sucked. It was like some kind of Fun Vampire in that game. I'd start off happy, and by the end I'd had so much joy drained from my soul I thought that guy with the piano on PBS who sings political songs was funny.

    I had become a monster.

I know those words, but my brain refuses to process them as a sentence.

I don't agree, if Nintendo made a push for the M rated game, got all 3rd parties to give them equal releases of the "big" M rated franchises, and continued to do the "kiddie" the way ONLY Nintendo knows how, I think they would rule the roost.

Everyone with a damn brain in their head would have to at least consider saying,"we might as well go with Nintendo because they have all of that M rated shit and the Nintendo franchises as well".

I think there's a difference between simple and shallow. Smash Bros. really shouldn't be compared to regular fighting games because it's barely even in the same genre. To me it's like a modern version of the 1983 Mario Bros. on versus. Just like Super Mario Kart, it's meant to be a party game that's easy to learn, not a game like Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri that comes with a textbook size instruction book.

Yes, you are right that the characters and presentation are big part of Smash Bros.' appeal but I think the games stand very well on their own without them.

  9. I like smash brothers as long as you don't refer to it as a 3-D Fighter, preferred not a fighter at all, I always thought of it as a party game... I guess almost like Power Stone, but not as good. (With more balance though)

  10. There's a lot to know and learn and apply in that game.
    No there isn't.
Yes there is, and a lot at that.

EDIT: Are you talking about the N64 game?
