I like mine manic.
I like "old school" shooters over the new (buckets of bullets). But it's more than just lots of bullets versus not, the old school shooters were more creative.
My favorites are Technosoft's and Compile's with some Konami thrown in for good measure.

Pure silliness.the old school shooters were more creative.
And I dig them all, though I've a special place in my heart for Cave, Psikyo and Takumi.
I would have voted for
C) Either way, I like my shmups both ways.
but that wasn't an option so I voted for methodical as I assumed it was getting less love (and I was right!).
I want to show the local Japanese that us Americans can hang with these modern shmups too. I practice regularly on Radiant Silvergun and even DoDonPachi Dai-ou-jou with hopes of getting a place on the scoreboard at a nearby arcade with some annotation "Yes! a gaijin did this!" (Or something to that extent)
I love those shooters that scream POWER!! Blazing guns and screen-clearing bombs are always good for me....![]()
My favorites are DoDonPachi (but not really DonPachi), ESP RaDe, Radiant Silvergun, Guwange. I like shooters that don't really need patterns, but insanely perfect hit detection and thousands of bullets. I guess methodical, because I prefer perfect bullet-dodging and weaving right into the eye of the storm then I do over sheer random speed.
whatever is fun.
i've had more fun with manic though.
Yeah, my opinion for which you don't know the reasoning is "pure silliness." I've got to admit swirling neon bullet patterns as the sole source of obstacles is creative, original and new every time! More of that, please!Originally posted by Mode7
Pure silliness.
Either one is fine with me. I like being challenged, since the reward for succeeding in something tough is great self-confidence, but I think I lean more towards old-school "methodical" shmups. I seriously lack the physical skill needed to be an expert manic shmupper, but that doesn't mean I don't try my best. =P
Yes, very clever.I've got to admit swirling neon bullet patterns as the sole source of obstacles is creative, original and new every time! More of that, please!
But if you think that's all they're about, I think you're missing the point a bit...
