i dont think they were the remakes......and it could have been on the DC, i can't remember.
Wasn't there a remake of Ys I and II on the Saturn?
I think they were part of a Falcom collection of some sort.

Saturn's Falcom Classics Vol I includes a remake of Ys, while Falcom Classics Vol II includes one of Ys II. Both have prettier graphics than even the PCE version, but music is not as good. Ys I - II Eternal Story has been ported recently to PS2 from the Windows version by Di-Gi Cube, but the DC never had a Ys game.
To really "get" Ys...you kind of had to be there. The ram-Adol-into-things gameplay of Ys I, II, and IV seems pretty naff these days, yeah. Really, the appeal was graphical, musical, and cinematic. But if you were there...you understand how obscenely cool these games seemed at the time.
Also, fun note: Ys Book I & II for TG-CD was the first game to get a 10 in EGM !

Doesn't one of the remakes of I&II(dunno which console) have a fan translated English patch? I'd like to play Ys I&II for the time and I want to start with the remakes. Which one has a fan translation? Link?Originally Posted by Recap
the pc version is being worked on. its not finished tho. i had the link bookmarked but i cant find it atm.
Yeah, Eternal does. Might just be I and not II though. http://donut.parodius.com for all your translation patch needs.Originally Posted by isamu
Actually, I thought that mechanic seemed pretty naff then too, which is why I was such a fan of III, despite that not setting the gameplay world on fire or anything either.Originally Posted by thray-walsh
Seriously? Nothing on NES merited a 10? Wow, you guys give them out every other month now. Review policy sure was different there under Semrad. Also, fun note: Ys Book I & II for TG-CD was the first game to get a 10 in EGM !

Then later EGM gave 10's to Super Monaco GP on Genesis, destroying my faith in video game magazine integrity. It was certainly suspicious that Sendai's Sega mag Mega Play rated it much lower.Originally Posted by StriderKyo
Well, keep in mind when EGM(at least under the EGM name) first appeared it was almost the 16-bit era.Nothing on NES merited a 10?
