This should've been Harold & Kumar Go to In & Out Burger, or at least Harold & Kumar Go To Checkers.

How many stoner comedies have Doogie Howser snorting cocaine off the small of a stripper's back? The very short list may soon grow by one, says "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" star Kal Penn, who recently confirmed that Neil Patrick Harris will reprise his memorable role from the first flick and return for more mayhem in a "Harold & Kumar" sequel.

"Neil Patrick Harris comes back," Penn said of the still-untitled film. "The first one had a lot of good actors that were friends of ours — Jamie Kennedy, Ryan Reynolds, Eddie Kaye Thomas — who just came in and tore it up. We're trying for the same thing."

Harris may be just the tip of the iceberg. Penn revealed that producers are in talks with "Superman Returns" star Brandon Routh for a cameo role. "I don't know if his dates are going to work out, but I know they were talking to him [about being in the movie]," he said.

Penn appeared in "Superman Returns," but his part was largely cut by director Bryan Singer, leaving the actor with barely any lines in the highly anticipated film. Revenge may be a dish best served cold, even for the Man of Steel.

"Some kid MySpaced me and [said] that [I] should have Brandon Routh in the 'Harold & Kumar' sequel, and every time he's about to open his mouth, [we] should cut to somebody else," Penn said. "I thought that was pretty funny."

There has been speculation that the sequel will follow the pair of burger-craving buddies as they attempt to travel to Amsterdam, only to be diverted on their way there in a satire of post-9/11 politics and racial profiling (see "Not-So-Kind Buds Harold And Kumar Bash Bush In 'Amsterdam' "). That's just "spin" said Penn, even though he thinks it "would be awesome if [true]."

"I read the first draft, and from what I understand, it's changed 80 percent," Penn said. "It's not called 'Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam.' "

  8. day 1

  9. Day 1 here also. I didn't expect a whole lot from the first one and I think it is easily one of the best comedies of its kind.

    THAT is awesome.
