Thread: Who here plays games at an arcade?

  1. I just went earlier this week. Downtown Austin is one of the few places where you can find multiple neo geo, Guilty Gear, CvS2, etc. cabs all within walking distance of each other.

The arcade I usually visit seems to specialize in Neo Geo with some Golden Tee and quiz games to help pay the bills. The staff is also pretty willing to let the regulars come in during the weekdays (aka dead times) to play for free or just play some PS2 on a system one of the guys brings in. They're also very willing to take customer feedback/advice on which games to buy. Occasionally, I'll even lend them a cart or two...really nice place. Oh and just about everything but Golden Tee is 25¢ a play (SvC, 3rd strike, raiden fighters, KOF2k3, Puzzle Fighter, Ultracade, KOF98, etc).

  2. I like to play music games (Beatmania, Pop'n Music) Megatouch, fighting games (Getting into back Street Fighter III for about the zillionth time =3) and some driving games. I'm also pretty good at Puzzle Bobble after extended play at my arcade and PBO.

Oh and let's not talk about how many times me and my friends have beaten Moonwalker. =D/

  3. you'd think with the recent rise in the re-releasing and buying of older games (since its now trendy) that places would pop up with older arcade games for .25/play and take off.

  4. News

I go whenever I'm in Central London, usually once a month or so when I'm visiting the Japan Center. The local arcade recently became 100% fruit machines/video poker.

I pray that I can find an Out Run 2 machine when I go to Spain in a few weeks.
Both the Trocadero and Play 2 Win on Oxford Street have had Outrun 2 for a while now

I wish Casino would put Progear in a cab where you could actually see what the hell is going on.. I suppose a blurry monitor is still a step up from one where everything is bright yellow..
Parodius series Scoreboards - Oh teh insanity

  5. There's a bowling alley next to the gym I go to which has some AMs. I mainly just play DDR after a workout or Virtua Cop 3 to kill some time.

And I can't believe Casino are still in business >_<

  6. Some of my best arcade memories:

    - Being intimidated by the fact that Street Fighter 2 had 6 buttons, and finally trying the game for the first time.....then getting the hang of it an whupping everyone's butt in it.
    - Playing Ninja Turtles with 4 people
    - Playing X-Men with 4 People
    - In Killer Instinct, doing a Knockoff to Cinder on his Desert Stage with Chief Thunder chanting in the background as he fell down - the people watching me went NUTS.
    - Going on my first winstreak in SF2 - 56 wins with Ken
    - Remembering how no one wanted to let me back on the machine after kicking ass 25 victories in a row in Tekken 3
    - Meeting one of my best friends over Fighter's History, oddly enough
    - The feel of the crowd on Saturday afternoon waiting to play, exchanging tips and strategies
    - This one little Asian kid DESTROYING everyone at SF2. I don't think he spoke a lick of english, btw
    - Everyone standing in line, waiting for the manager to finish assembling MK2, and me being the first to plunk a token into the slot.
    - Wondering how anyone in their right mind could play "Forgotten Worlds" and actually get somewhere in it.

  7. I don't hit arcades much these days. They all suck around here and I have more jamma boards than all of 'em (in the Seattle area) put together. If Gameworks would fucking fix the sticks on their 3rd Strike cab already, I'd be there regularly as it's the only place you can find competition on a regular basis.

I stopped by today and they had gotten rid of the Ultracade, but you may want to check the Polaris location sometimes they trade games back & forth. The only new stuf I saw there were 2 DDR machines (4th mix & extreme), Terraburst, Time Crisis 3 & that standup Beachhead 2000 that D&B had(/has?). They did have Galaga, Ms Pacman & Frogger set on 1 token per credit but they're in older cabs. It's still nice to see 'em for under fifty cents.

On a side note I may end up working there again after talking to one of my old bosses today.

  9. Seven Force, you have it a lot better than you know it. Those Astro City cabs are the bomb.

I would eat a tree to have that cab with the Cave game in it.

XenoG- I do anticipate heading toward the Polaris area in a few weeks, definitely. Once when I had been there sometime ago, I saw the Battletoads cab that used to be at the Reynoldsburg one. Hopefully the Ultracade will be there now- if it's got Varth, Truxton II, and or 1941 in it, I'm gonna be a happy camper.

I really hate Teraburst- there's a game that is way too hard with a load of cheapass attacks. Occasionally you'll have 104 missiles coming at you and 2 seconds to shoot that shit all down.

Ages ago MM Reynoldsburg used to have the Power Drift DX for 50c- I miss that game. Playing it in the sim cab beats any home version - even a pixel-perfect one like that in Yu Suzuki's Game Works.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  10. Some arcades in Sydney are 100% AstroCity cabinets ^_^
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.
