The persistence of these little companies on using 3D graphics for such a typical 2D genre is annoying, anyways.

Thanks, Shapermc. I find it a bit depressing that no one else there gave this one a shot. Those screen shots of it do look rather ugly and are disappointing compared to XII Stag- which has some damn hot looking sprites.

Border BROWN? Plays good. Doesn't look all that, though.Originally Posted by Recap

I went to Akihabara to play it today. Here's my two cents (or three yen):
-Yes, for a NAOMI game, this really does look like ass. Hell, someone could probably design better 3D graphics on a Dezaemon disc. To see something like SnS2 then look at this game makes my eyes hurt a little.
-There is a code to play as the ship from XII Stag. Of course, the ship gets all of its features (side attack and back fire). Yes, it has the same three-level shot, too.
-If any of you guys remember G-Stream, then the scoring mechanic is very similar to it. You catch falling medals worth 10 points each. If you don't miss any after you catch the first, the value goes up to 20, 30, 40 50, 100, 500, 1000, etc. Miss one (or enough in a string) and you go back to puny 10 point medals. This can be a problem since they fall very fast, so it's easy to break a chain of 5000-point medals because you couldn't catch ithe last one in time.
-Speaking of G-Stream, the weapon system is somewhat 'borrowed' from there too. As stated before, you have three weapons. What's different here is that when you set one weapon at level 4 (5 is max) and switch to the next weapon, you can use both at the same time. However, the previous weapon is set at level 1. (When you select as the main shot, it retains all of its power). Lets say you get Level 5 shot, and Level 3 missile. When in shot mode, shot is maxed out. when you switch to missile mode, you have level 3 missile and level 1 shot at the same time. I think you also keep level 1 shot when you switch to laser mode too. As for powering up, the item powers up the current weapon you're using. You can find hidden bombs, but that's about it for items.
-The XII Stage code? Simple: [i]Insert your coin, hold the Shot button, then Up, Down, Right x 12, Left x 12.
If you're graphics whore, this game will disappoint you. Even the title font looks uninspired. However, the play system is okay and might warrant a coin or few.
Expect some screenshots (so-so quality) and a video soon.
Thanks Seven Force, much appreciated.
!
Thanks 7F.Looking forward to seeing these shots- it sounds like it may actually play good even if it looks a tad ugly. Getting to use the XII Stag ship is a nice bonus IMO.
I'm curious to see some other stages of the game.

Border Down was more gray than brown. And while it went for a cold, bleak style that was a bit bland, you must admit the detail and texture work was fantastic, easily on par with Ikaruga.Originally Posted by Seven Force

Funny, because G.Rev did a sizable chunk of Ikaruga's backgrounds, and assisted the coding... They're really comperable in terms of polys and texture detail, for good reason. Granted in terms of design there's no comparison, but then Yashushi Suzuki is a genius.Originally Posted by Recap
