Can you take a pic of those square holes you were referring to?

  4. Sure can.
Also, what color were the screws in the va3 you took apart? It may be meaningless, but they were all brass in the va3 and all black in the va4.

See it between the vents? There is one in the bottom set of vents as well.
This is the va3 for comparison

  5. Any idea what version would have a weird looking RF jack?
My buddy had one at his shop that had a weird coaxial jack instead of an RCA jack for the RF out.
It was definitely a Genesis and not a Mega Drive of some sort, and I think it had the "high definition graphics" on top.

Yeah, the model 1 had an orange coaxial looking RF jack, as well as an EXT port on the back. You want the version with the Yamaha YM2612 sound chip on the board.

My VA3 had almost entirely black screws,I think there was randomly one brass screw in it.

That system is a Neptune now.

I've seen hundreds of model 1 genesis consoles, and this is the only one that didn't have an RCA jack for RF. It must have been really uncommon, because we never did find an RF box that would connect to it.

Yeah I don't have the 32X, and my "High Definition Graphics" Genesis looks fine in RGB. I see no evidence of color banding.

  10. Mine always looked fine on my 1084s monitor using an RGB cable, but the composite output had these weird artifacts around sprites. It was like faint vertical lines that would show up around anything other than the background layers. My TV was blurry enough to hide them, I guess.
