Yes, because the color banding is a result of converting the RGB signal to composite.
There are no negative visual effects if you're just outputting that raw RGB signal.
I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, but wouldn't the color banding be specific only to RF/Composite use?

RGB is Really Good, Boys.
I wonder if that genesis was part of a kiosk or something. I've literally seen hundreds and hundreds of genesis system, and I've never encountered what you describe.
I know. It's so weird. It almost looked like the type of coax connector that European TVs use.
I'm pretty sure my friend still has the console in storage, since he closed up shop before selling much of the classic stuff.
I'll have a look for it if I ever get around to visiting him.

Yeah, the Genesis jump to RGB kind of floored me. Wish I could find an easy way to record in RGB.

He records in RGB with some weird pro equipment where every console needs a specific setting or something. He explained it to me a little when I asked and it sounded horrible.
I haven't heard of an external RGB to S-video encoder, that would be easier than modding all my consoles for S-video.
