Thread: Why no Contra collection?

  1. Why no Contra collection?

We have Sonic collections and now Mega Man and Street Fighter collections. Midway is putting some of their older arcade games in a collection.

Where is a collection for what used to be one of the greatest series in all of video games? Contra.

Konami let this series go down the drain, I will never understand why but they should release the original Contra and Super Contra arcade games, Contra 3 (SNES), Contra Hard Corps (Genesis) even throw in the Game Boy Contra games on one disc with a bunch of extras thrown in.

The NES games were better than the arcade games. They'd be nice bonuses, though.

The PC had a Konami collection that included Contra, Super C, and Castlevania 1-3. It was pretty good.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

  3. It'd be great if they also threw in the Playstation Contra games.

    3D > 2D

    1) I disagree about the NES games being better than the Arcade versions.
The original Contra? Yes. Super Contra? No.

    2) The Castlevania/Contra compilation released for the PC was crap and doesn't count. You would think they would throw in alot of bonuses (like the playing the Japanese version of Contra with all the added cut-scenes and graphics effects), but all we got were ROM dumps of the games and transcripts of the crappy manuals that came with the original NES game (as opposed to proper translations of the Famicom manuals). Maybe it seems that I'm asking for too much when the compilation cost only $20, but it isn't when you can get much more for free.

I'm surprised Konami never did a Contra Deluxe Pack during the early days of the PlayStation and Saturn like they did with most of their shoot-em-up series. We got a Gradius pack, a Salamander pack, a Twin Bee pack, a Parodius pack and even a fucking Lethal Enforcers pack (of course, that last one was developed by KCE Chicago), but no Contra.

  6. Yeah, it would be nice. I would also love a Castlevania collections disc. What the fuck is Konami waiting for? Everyone else and their mother's are raking in the cash with compilations of old franchises/games.

    How so?

I never got this argument. The version you're more used to isn't neccessarily better.

  8. Like a few have mentioned, all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth and a Castlevania collection. And not the stupid PC one.

The NES version of the first Contra at least was much better than the arcade counterpart. It played better, faster, smoother. And it didn't have the completely useless vertical alignment for the game. There was no reason Contra games should have ran in 'TATE', and I usually preferred the NES versions because they didn't. They were horizontal like they should have been in the arcades.

If Konami were to "fix" the arcade versions and rerelease them, I'd happily pick it up.

  10. But would they have Probotector modes?
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.
