I asked about how this particular game plays on the PC+pad setup. I got replies about 'it supports it' and 'it plays the same as on the 360' which didn't specifically address my problem. As I said, I was previously interested in Orange Box, which has pad support, and a 360 version, but both apparently sucked when played that way. I completely know nothing about PC gaming and just wanted a tiny specific tidbit of personal advice :-/

My roommate's been playing this with a character fashioned to Wilford Brimley (the diabetes commercial guy). It's pretty hilarious since he found the correct glasses to complete the gig. Something about mister 'beetus with a garbage gun is amazing.

  4. I'm lv 9.

Shit's gotten a whole lot easier now.

  5. Game is definitely good times. Found some random building and kicked the shit out of all the raiders in there, and came across some asshole who wanted to sell shit. I notice a locked locker and the only person who could have the key would be the other dick in the room. So I killed him, took the key, and found a shit ton of guns and ammo in the locker. Things like that just make this game so fun.

On a side note, apparently Elder Scrolls will more than likely be making a return in 2010. I'd love to see many of the new features, that would work, in ES. I definitely like the look and the feel of ES better, but being 2 such very different games in nature, you really can't compare the two just by that alone.

Also, putting a grenade in someone's pocket is awesome. Good times.

When you select a word, it tells you how many letters in the word are correct. Use this knowledge to deduce what other words listed on the screen might be the password. For example, if the password is STRAYS and you select SPRAYS, it would tell you that you got 5/6 letters.

Call it an active imagination, call it fevered rambling, but when I play this my mind just imagines it as a wild-west type of world. Pioneering, scrounging to live, traversing deserts (or post-nuclear wastelands). In a sense I like putting my own interpretation into it - then again Fallout 3 gives a lot of nods in this direction - small community settlements, guys in cowboy hats, people living by their own code and volition.

Seriously, that kind of rough and tumble world would feel goofy in some tripped out hypercolor frenzy post-apocalypse. Like World of Fallout or some nonsense.

I guess I'm gonna give Fallout 3 another go tomorrow, and just slow my pace down and try to approach it differently than I have. Because I really want to like it. The world/story are fantastic.
I had a hard go of it in the beginning with limited resources. Again the game seems to force experimentation out of the player. There's plenty of ammo to buy from shops/traders, so how do you get the caps needed to finance your stockpile? Make items, forage for goods, or buy/sell between vendors. This micromanagement is only fun in the first place if you're into that sort of thing. I was way back in the day and apparently still am - just never found a game to hook me so until now.

Once you've worked and whittled away at a stockpile goal though, the result feels that much more rewarding. I have tons of Stimpaks and ammo for all my weapons. It also helps to start thinking about what kind of combat you want to be involved in. I have a big proficiency in Sneak and Small Guns so I will always sell/pass up on Heavy weapons and Melee gear. I figure if I'm so low on ammo that I have to resort to using something my character is awful with, then I haven't managed things properly. Ammo consumption and shopping around are just as vital to staying alive in Fallout 3 as the combat itself.

  10. I just finished playing this for 7 hours straight. Its fucking awesome. It feels very much like oblivion except with the whole vats system in place. My only complaint so far is how slow your running speed is.
