Just store your shit in the nuka-cola machine outside the super duper mart or something. I'm pretty sure they'll stay there forever. I'm using the Reily's Rangers compound as my home base. Lot quicker access than the two houses you can get, plus cashing in on the location finding mini-quest.

  2. I'm only a few hours in, but walking around "outside" early on is like fucking suicide. Super Mutants and I've got a 10mm? Ouch. And what's with that locked cell in the hideaway?

if you go a little bit past Big Town, there is a bridge with a Super Mutant on the other side where you can see the ruins of a church building in the distance. Once you get across, head northeast and you'll see fences and a lot of abandoned train carts. There are two building in the fenced area, and both have doors which lead to The Family haven. Watch out for bear traps and mines....btw, it's a little tricky finding their actual base. If you happen to come across a mine shaft filled with two Mirelk Hunters (crab looking things) then you are on the right path, back track out of that mineshaft and make a left, there is train cart which looks to be blocking your path, but its actually not. One of the members of The Family will be on the other side guarding the actual base to the haven. He probably won't let you in, and one of the dialogue options will be to give him 100 caps. If you do this, he opens the gate.

I gotta say, I'm impressed with the variety of locations in this game. They did a good job with making a wasteland be interesting to explore. The 1950s suburbia virtual reality part was neat stuff as I wasn't expecting anything like that.

Yeah, taking down super mutants early on is really tough. You essentially need to shoot them in the arm, take their weapon when they drop it, and turn it against them, while always hiding behind cover. Though they become a joke after a while, and raiders are a bigger threat since the latter get weapon upgrades, including missile launchers.

  6. I ran into a super mutant with a missile launcher when I was like level 3. Never since, oddly enough.

I wonder if that was a set encounter. I've never seen them with anything but hunting rifle, grenades, mini-gun, assault rifle, and various melee weapons.

  8. Could be. I don't remember where it was on the map (apart from that it was in the open wasteland, not the city), but he was standing inside a troop transport truck, no other enemies around, and he blasted me when I passed by the opening unawares. I had just enough time to spin around, get off a few feeble shots at him, and then get blasted again, fatally.

  9. I finished this game:

The ending sequence was fucking awesome. Full out war in DC with the huge Brotherhood robot leading the way. The end itself wasn't as fufilling as the previous games but I guess it was pretty significant if you think of it. I just wish the main quest was longer

  10. I'm trying to like this game, and certain elements (collecting things and building up your abilities) are as addictive as any other in the genre, but there's some big things holding it back for me so far.

    - Lame-ass NPCs and NPC interaction. It's just extremely artificial (which it is in almost every RPG), but the set it up like it won't be, so I'm constantly disappointed. I love it when someone wants me to come back and see them some time, turns around, and then asks me how I've been since last we met. I've barely done anything that isn't ultimately a fetch quest, either.
    - HORRIBLE inventory system...just, completely inadequate.
    - Useless 3rd-person view.
    - Generally bad animation, but not a deal-breaker.
    - Extremely vague quest descriptions. The NPC that gave it to gives a bit more info, but if you save it in the field and come back in a couple days, what's available in your data log barely sets you in the right direction.
    - Unfortunately, the repetitive environments and colors are beginning to wear on me. Subway "dungeons" are the worst offenders, but mucked up "facilities" are right behind. Things generally look interesting from a distance, but up close it's all pretty bland (making the underground areas doubly boring).
