Thread: This just hurts my brain

  1. Did he smack her with a doorbell afterwards? Also, book burning, and other forms of forced censorship and oppression of art, are just sickening. Saddening, since they will deprive some folks of partaking in things with tons of meaning, things that could actually enrish their lives. And sickening due to the ignorance behind many of the actions.

I'm betting these people are republicans too, which would make this all even more sad. Nothing like a group that is paranoid of democrats being newage commies and nazies, turning around and acting like newage commies and nazies themself.

How people miss such obvious things is beyond me.

If you are going to fight like a bitch for gun rights and religon on the grownds that Hitler band public ownership of guns and commies eradicated religion, how about not going around and doing something else they did, LIKE BURN BOOKS. OMG THE PARADOX

  3. I remember hearing about a church group crushing a bunch of porn tapes, with a steam roller in a parking lot. That was totally lame. Someone had to spend the money to get these tapes/DVDs? Not only did they waste thier efforts by doing so, but they actually had to spend money, that could have been used for a better cause.

They had to save everyone from going to hell for sinning. Did you miss that part of the bible that says its all about how much you sin, and not faith in JC as your savior? Its on like page 436 or something.

Man, I'm glad we have people like that around, if they destroy everything bad, we can all go to heaven.

  5. There was a book burning somewhere not all that far from my town for the Harry Potter books.

Oh no, our children are reading! We must incinerate them ALL!

I have no problem with religious people at all, but burning a book because it has fictional witchcraft is a bit extreme. Let the kids read and have some fun, dammit.

  6. So long as they are not burning your personal books, what does it matter?

  7. I'd love to try and have a conversation with an extreme christian like those talked about in this thread. Hell, I think a conversation with any form of extremist would be fascinating.

My friend has a mum who wouldn't let him watch Buffy because it had Vampires in it, which for some reason is against christianity.

  8. Well arjue, think about that for a second. What do Vampires hate the sight of? The cross...

Anyway, MVS, that seems like a rather uninformed viewpoint to be coming from you, I don't really remember the last time I've ever read a comment you made and wondered wtf you were thinking when you said it. It matters because if people get it into their heads that they can burn books then suddenly anything that might be considered against the social norm will be turned to cinders by someone who is afraid of whats in that book. If knowledge is power and books contain knowledge why give up that power so freely?

I bet Jesus hated the cross too. Ya know, being nailed to it and all.

You are talking like this guy is dangerous or has power. This is a pitiful fringe group in Iowa that has absolutely no power whatsoever. 99.999999999999999999999999999% of Americans will find this to be ludicrous. It is fair to say that this person's actions are completely without consequence, and considering there are, at the very least, tens of thousands of copies of any given book in print (or at least the books he will burn), any number that this asshat can ruffle up wont put a dent in distribtion.

I think the worst thing one can do, in fact, is not to try to discredit him but to give him any attention at all.
