Thread: Now I need your help for bolt 3.

  1. I'd like to see someone take the IMDB and RottenTomatoes professional approach to covering and keeping track of videogames. I'm talking about producers, company histories, older games, a large and good community and something that informs me right away what's coming out. I'll talk to you later.

Is there a NEED for another site adjacent to Gamefaqs? No, but one with some thought and help behind it would nice, and options are too bad. Try to make your design more like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes (the way they structure their information). Have a New releases dialogue box and upcoming releases on the main page.

Honestly, go to a site like Game Rankings, Game Faqs, IMDB and RottenTomatoes then add a personal touch like Penny Arcade of PVP and you've got yourself an entity not found on one page.

The forums will feature several areas which feature RPG ish elements for spending your items and money. It's all very nice and I think people will enjoy it.
So basacially it's GameFAQ's with a forum gimmick?

And GameFAQ's may be run by one person, but when I say manpower I mean "the thousands of people who submit FAQ's and codes nearly every day" and without them, the site would have been worth nothing.

Basacially what I get from this post is you somehow want to compete with GameFAQ's, yet you're offering nothing more than a cheap forum gimmick which you hope will tear away at a society that GameFAQ's has built over the years?

You're gonna need alot more than that.

  3. That's my plan. As I've been trying to say all along.

But apparently I'm retarded for even thinking about the idea of making a site people could possibly get enjoyment from.

God forbid I defend myself and my idea.

Negative. That's only the beginnings of the site. I want to evolve it with ideas and new features to become more than a Gamefaqs. I want it to just become a site of it's own.
The forum thing is not just a gimmick, it's just something for people to do. You don't have to, but if you are bored .. hey why not?

In the end as I said before, Gamefaqs is just how I want my site to start as (pretty much how it is now minus the submissions) and I will build onto it.

That's why I'm asking you guys what you'd like to see.

So what would you like to see?

  4. You cant just "start" as gamefaqs and build on. Gamefaqs has years and years with of submissions from thousands of people. Where are you going to get nearly a portion of that info and support?

    I merely talking about functionality.
It's definetly going to take time to fill up the database with FAQs and codes but like I said, this isn't something that is over night. As it gains members it will grow.

Gamefaqs took years to grow aswell.
What I'm saying is just how it functions is the starting of my site. (which is pretty much now although I'm still working on the forums - which are custom built)
I'll get that support as the site grows but I want to keep adding new functionality to the site so it becomes more than Gamefaqs has.

Do you get what I mean now?

If so, what do you want to see as a new function? Or a new feature?

  6. Dude, no one was coming anywhere close to trolling you until you pushed it. If you're so thin skinned that you can't take some criticism, then perhaps you should refrain from asking for opinions.

If I started a thread announcing that I was opening a site called Lan Di's Balls that would offer something that's generally offered everywhere else on the Internet I sure as hell would expect some criticism from people, and it would be justified. No one's really trolled you yet, although Sl1p pushed it, and telling you that the site has a shitty name is not trolling. It's an honest opinion, from more than one person. You might take it to heart rather than getting so upset about it.

If you can't take it, just let me know and I can lock the thread for you.

  7. Kano, I wasn't referring to you as a troll. I feel the thread is a bit different now anyways. I'm trying to be a bit more friendly here but when someone calls you a retard for simply asking for suggestions then you must understand.

I didn't really ask for opinion though, I asked for suggestions but I guess I wasn't entirely clear.

I would like more suggestions on what you'd like to see in the functionality department.
CKA told me that it would be hard getting people to give feedback for a site and I didn't doubt him.

I realize the name of the site isn't for everyone and that's cool but there isn't one suggested alternative yet, right?

Anyways, it seems a bit better now. Although I'm sure people will reply without reading the entire thread first.

A site like IMDB and Gamefaqs is an investment. You can't not try to make one because it takes time to get stronger. But these people have very good concerns for the site, and there's no denying that it's going to take a lot of work in order for it to be different then just a Gamefaqs, which is why I think my IMDB suggestion rings true.

The name doesn't matter. Once you get members in the community it will grow. bolt 3 has the twang of a design studio, so it could be really neat if you play up the nerdy angle.

  9. GameFAQs started as an AOL page and grew from something; it was innovative and offered something new. This seems to be just GameFAQs-lite, only with hopes of having better boards than previous and current GameFAQs-ish sites have had.

This just doesn't seem worth the time you are/will have to dedicate to it, especially given the fact that other sites have tried this concept and failed. Posting bonuses are fine, but they're on tons of other boards, so again, it could just be tons of time spent on something that just isn't worth it. Also, catering it for nerds isn't all that helpful, as this is THE INTERNET and all.

  10. But that's what this thread was supposed to be for Jeremy.

What should I add onto this site to make it more unique?

You've been around the block on gaming sites. What should I add?
That was my intention with this thread before it got a bit out of hand.
