It's all about the functionality right now anyways. Saying you detest an incomplete web design just proves you must have ignored some of the first post.

Suggestions, bring on the suggestions. Save the opinions for Fight Club.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

*edit* misread the two top sentences. However, how you didn't expect to recieve constructive criticism is beyond me.

  2. I saw it and, not suprisingly, I am skeptical. Good luck anyway. If anything, let nay-sayers such as myself drive you to make the best of all of that. I wouldn't put a dime on it coming anywhere near close to being even a distant flame before the sun of Gamefaqs though.

EDIT: My suggestion is that you not waste your time on that and offer instead to help make Gamefaq's a more attratcive and user-friendly place.

Why? Did Jeremy of FuryFox give their opinion on the site? A little bit but they backed it up with great suggestions and possible great ways to help the site out.

No one else did that. If people can't realize the difference from 'suggestion' and 'opinion' then that's not my problem sir.

I never asked 'how do you like my design' or 'hey im programming the greatest forums ever that will beat Vbulletin'. I never once said that. As a matter of fact, my forums will be pretty simple. Simple is better in some cases anyways. People just like to assume things around here and deter people from ever doing anything that would be more popular than anything they've accomplished.

  4. Dude, you're just coming off as the kind of dude who IRL sticks his fingers in his ears and shouts "la la la" over and over when you hear something you don't want to. You couldn't have expected not to get opinions when you posted links to the work-in-progress site and gave out an idea that's been done without coming up with any significant differences yourself yet. That's all I'm saying.

  5. Why would people give opinions on the design of a site in progress anyways? Isn't that like laughing at a building that is still missing the walls?

I'm not sticking my fingers in my ears. I'm simply asking for what I originally asked for and posters here can't seem to understand what that is.

You want examples of what I'm asking for? See- Jeremy and FuryFox.

Anyways, I'll be back tomorrow to hit up some of the suggestions I see (I hope). I have ideas, but Id like to get more ideas.

If you asked someone what they would do to balance the budget and instead they made fun of Bush, wouldnt you get a tad frustrated too?

Anyways, tomorrow I will read up this some more. Defintely thought this thread was getting better, so lets make it better. Post some real suggestions that you would find useful if you were in my position.

  6. Ok. Real suggestions.

You want to attratct people to your site. You have to give them a reason. It is not likely that you can find a hook to your site that is not already used by another site (ie, you likely will not have anything that some other site already has, likely many sites already have) so you need a combination of things. Since you say you're up to the task (and this is a hurculean effort), then maybe you can make a database of all games, thier developers, publishers, esrb ratings (if applicable) and related links (internal) to material about the game. By sellecting a developer you can see a list of all games made by said developer. And so on. You can provide numerous values to each string (or game if you like) to help refine your database. The reviews, faqs, and related documents can be called up by searching for material.

This is a massive undertaking is it is with every reason that I doubt not only your capablity to do this but the capability of any person on this board.

  7. You asked where you should go next, or what you should do next, or something like that. The easy answer is, "go with what you want." You can try a mish-mash of things that have been done, use it as a base, and try something new. Or you can try some new things with established ideas in place from the start. Obviously, you can mix and match these things in any number of ways and executions. Expect to fall on your face a few times in this endeavor, this thread works well as practice for that, given the response thus far.

Except this is more of a case of laughing at someone who's proposing to build a monument to Abraham Lincoln in Washington DC, except this one will have him wearing a party hat.

What you don't seem to get is that GameFAQs works because it's pretty much a pure resourse with no cute little bullshit trinkets getting in the way. I go there, find what I want with a few clicks, and then I leave. You say you're going to start out as GameFAQs and then add in the unique content, but you just can't do it that way. You need the unique content now because that's going to be whatever will draw people there in the first place (and it has to be an actual, meaningful difference... I'm not going to go to your site because I can get an animated GIF or whatever when all the useful content is on GameFAQs). If you start off as a clone, you'll never get to the level where you can build further.

  9. Why would a person ask for opinions and then be upset when they aren't glowing opinions?

Apparently he just wanted suggestions, not anyone questioning what he's already come up with. Silly way to go about it if you ask me.

I really can't come up with anything other than what Tracer suggested, which sounds cool but damn time consuming. Plus don't try too hard to just cater to all the hardcore nerds out there. Put some stuff in that will click with them but if you want this to surpass GameFAQs then you'll have to keep the average joe in mind.

I don't have a good name in mind but bolt 3 went right over my head.
