Next episode preview looks good with more Legion.
    Yeah if handled better the episode had a ton of potential. I loved the first half but once the Generalshows up it got pretty lame. If it had gone the way of all the non super powered types kicking his ass it could've been a rockin' action episode. Instead though they all just faded out as the General took each out. That could've been cool too but the way it was handled lacked impact. These guys took some big hits and I found myself wondering what the point of having non-powered characters if they're going to take the same hits Superman would have and live to tell about it. I'm not saying they needed to kill anybody, but the action fizzled and didn't go anywhere. Had the politics/morals/heroes stuff been handled subtly even the lack of a rising conflict could've worked but it wasn't. I love the 'B' Leaguers so I was disapointed in how the whole thing was handled. Prove to me the superpowered types have the morals of the little man or that the little guys can kick ass just as well as the bigguns. This just seemed to be redundant and not at all exciting.

    Agreed.

    Is the General an actual character (as portrayed in Patriot Act) in the comic book world of DC?

    I rate Patriot Act 7.8/10

    Sorta. In the comics Eiling is going to die so he transports his brain to a JL villian named Shaggy Man. Shaggy Man is hairy so Eiling Shaves himself and becomes known as the General.

    The episode also featured some other, older mainstream DC tributes.

    The Seven Soldiers of Victory
    The Seven Soldiers of Victory (also known as the Law's Legionnaires) was DC Comics' second super-hero team. It may be worth noting that, unlike almost every other superhero team, this one included two sidekicks as members. (Stripesy was that rarity, an adult sidekick to a "kid" lead character.)

    Original Lineup:
    * Crimson Avenger (Lee Travis)
    * Star-Spangled Kid (Sylvester Pemberton)
    * Stripesy (Pat Dugan)
    * Vigilante (Greg Sanders)
    * Shining Knight (Sir Justin)
    * Green Arrow (Oliver Queen)
    * Speedy (Roy Harper)

    The Newsboy Legion
    Jack Kirby thought it'd be cool to have a superhero team that was actually a bunch of ethnically diverse inner-city kids. They sold newspapers on corners and fought crime.

    The Newsboy Legion was a group of kids that were very much in the "kid gang" mentality of the 1940s, much like "The Dead End Kids" or "Little Rascals" of the movies.

  4. Yeah , thanks for the heads-up links, Mash.

    DL'ing 'Patriot Act' now.

    The other two episodes were alright. I think I liked 'Flash and Substance' better. It was funny to see how differently Flash did things in Keystone compared to Bats and even Orion, and the way everyone in the city treated and reacted to him. Seeing his villians in action was cool too. I didnt realize Mirror Master had the power to WALK in and out of mirrors though. I thought he just used traps and gimmicks related to mirrors, so it just seemed lame to me with him and the other Flash rogues gallery walking out of that reporters make-up kit. The Trickster "capture" got a laugh out of me. Totally different from the way Bats or Orion would have done it.

    'Dead Reckoning' was alright. I loved seeing an animated Boston Brand ( now we just need the other "magic crew" - Phantom Stranger, Spectre, Ragman). The plot just seemed a bit rushed and ridiculous. The best part of the episode was Lex realizing what I was thinking and just getting rid of Grodd for being retarded. The thing with Deadman and Batman at the end just seemed tacked on really quick for a 'wow' -factor at the end. If they revisit this plot point in a later episode then I'll rescind that statement.

  5. I may be in the minority, but I really liked Patriot Act. I also really like the 'B' Leaguers though, so that could have something to do with it. I do wish they would have kicked more ass instead of getting their asses kicked.

  6. Re: Patriot Act - This episode need Captain Marvel to come in and kick some ass, more Green Arrow and Speedy fighting together, less dumb kids/bystanders being spotlighted and getting in the way ( I mean the one kid got into the fucking wrecking-ball equipment and was helping the League, come on), and needed Vigilante just getting squashed - he was useless as ever - the damn cops had better firepower than he did.

    oh, yeah found this earlier, on Comics Continium:

    Superman: Brainiac Attacks, the upcoming direct-to-DVD film.

    Tim Daly and Dana Delany are reprising their roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane for the film, TV Guide is reporting.

    The actors performed the roles for Kids' WB!'s Superman animated series. Delany has reprised the role for Justice League, while George Newbern has taken over the role for that show.

    According to the TV Guide report, the film will feature both Brainiac and Lex Luthor as villains, and will focus on the relationship between Superman and Lois.

    Yeah I can totally see where you're coming from with the pros and cons of both episodes. All told Flash and Substance was probably the better constructed episode, but the way Dead Reckoning just upped the ante so much - really making the Legion feel like a threat - was just awesome and added to the show so much. That's why it was so "wow" for me.

    Patriot Act needed Vigilante just getting squashed - he was useless as ever - the damn cops had better firepower than he did.
    Here we do not see eye to eye. Perhaps you are confused. Vigilante is both cowboy and super hero and as such is the greatest character of all time. Hope that clears that up.

    thanx...there is a God. More of these DTDVD movies should be coming out, there are just sooooo many places to go with the DC Timm/Dini universe.

    My fav so far of the new eppys:

    DEAD RECKONING - awesome.

    Patriot Act (even with excessive amounts of corn, it was still slightly better than F&S)
    Flash And Substance (still better than 97% of whats on tv these days)

    - yeah.well....

    I think Vigilante works a little better in episodes where he isnt taking on Superman-level villains that can toss tanks and jump miles through the air. 'Hunters Moon' for example.After all he's not Batman with a southern accent. He's a cowboy.....on a motorcycle. Episodes where the poor guy has a fighting chance are where he shines best....if at all...

  10. Updated episode list.
