Actually, it's the other way around with the click wheel.

You spin your thumb along the wheel to increase/decrease the volume and then you press the wheel for track changes/play/pause/menu. I sometimes will move my finger a bit when changing tracks and up the volume a bit.

  2. Hmm I've noticed alot of people are starting to get this, and I gotta say, I'm starting to want one myself. But first I have a few questions to ask.

    1. Is it easy to put tracks from my cd's onto it?

    2. How does this new thing for the car work and is it good?

    3. When dl'ing the tracks, if you use the site where you pay, does buying all the tracks from a cd usualy add up to be close to the actual cd cost (say if bought from best buy or online places that go as low as 10 bucks)?

    4. Does the official site to buy tracks contain tracks from obscure metal bands (obscure to most ppl anyway)?

Download iTunes (http://www.itunes.com) and check it out. Its really, really easy to rip CDs to your hard drive, and since iTunes was designed alongside the iPod, they are perfectly complimentary.

My friend has something where you stick it on top of your iPod and it uses your radio at a certain frequency. Worked perfect.

    Full albums are $9.99

itues is a great music organizer (i've almost completely ditched winamp for it,) but its online store is a bit lacking in relatively obscure titles.

  5. iTunes is lacking in even common titles sometimes. It all depends on what companies are willing to work with them. You'll notice that between all the online music shops, some bands and labels just aren't there. Obscure metal might be hard to come by.

iTunes is the easiest ripping program there is. You can choose between MP3, AAC (better), ALE (losless), and AIFF. It has all the usual CDDB stuff, too.

Honestly... if you want the whole album, physically buy it in a store. That way you can rip it in the best quality you want. The nice thing about buying music online is you can buy the GOOD PARTS of albums if the rest sucks.

Apple carries stuff from some indie labels, and adds more all the time.

if you're talking about the bmw integration, it's a work of art. wish i had had a bmw..

without that, the fm radio option is decent, but doesn't sound as good as if you hooked it directly into your stereo. seeing as i'm a bitch about that stuff, i bought a mod for my honda accord that allows me to hook anything into my stereo through left and right rca cables. $90. all i have to do now if find someone to install it for me. (there's no rewiring involved, but i've never opened a car stereo before)

  8. I still think a standard little cassette adapter sounds fine for an iPod... But I can't really judge. My sound's dead on the iMac and I can only use internal sound. No speakers for me...

The radio thing works great, though. It does what it's supposed to at a fair price.

  9. Ok, I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these, just a shame they are so damn expensive, but then again, I guess its worth it. I gotta say, the thing that has me solf is just imagining that at any time anywhere with that thing, I can listen to any cd I own.

So have these new ipods come out in stores yet, cause the 12 hour battery life is a must have?

Also, whats the best way to rip cds to itunes? right now im just ripping them from MusicMatch jukebox and then adding the file to my library. Is there a better way to do this that has better quality?

  10. you'll wish you got it sooner when you no longer have to lug large CD books in and out of your car, hide them when you park in public to avoid theft, and scratch up all your CDs.
